Our own Ralph Preziosi doesn’t just love to ski.
He started a non-profit organization to lead international trips so others could enjoy the sport, as well.
His Snow & Adventure Club of the Carolinas has been to Switzerland, Italy and Austria. The next destination is in March in France at the world’s largest ski resort, Marvelous Méribel Village at Les 3 Vallées in France from March 7 to 14.
Ralph has a few openings left for the trip, and he’s made it about as easy and affordable as possible for anyone to join, regardless of skiing ability. Contact him if you would like more information.
For Ralph, 69, skiing is a lifelong passion. And regular workouts at Alloy make it possible for him to continue doing it
“It gives me a feeling of euphoria,” says Ralph, a retired food distributor. “There’s nothing like it, going down a mountain and feeling a breeze on your face. It’s just an amazing feeling of freedom.”
Before Alloy, he was a member at a “big box” chain gym. He looked for excuses to avoid going.
But not anymore. The accountability, expert coaching, and variety of workouts keep him coming back.
“I am an expert skier, but I’m getting older,” he says. “If it wasn’t for working out, I wouldn’t be able to do it.”
Keep doing what you love for as long as possible. Call us today for your free initial consultation.

Lori Dalton had always been active, but something happened after she turned 62
“It just hit,” says Lori, now 67, a retired administrative assistant. “All of the joints and the muscles started to ache. It came out of nowhere and I worried it couldn’t be fixed. But it can be. It has been fixed.”
Now Lori has gained strength and confidence. And she’s golfing so well, her husband can’t believe the improvement.
Lori joined Alloy about eight months ago, hoping to feel, move, and look better.
“The scale just kept going up,” she recalls. “I had to do something else. I realized I had to do strength training, especially, at my age, for flexibility, getting up and down off the floor for my grandchildren.”
Now? She’s checked all the boxes, and credits Alloy’s small group personal training, supportive environment, and flexible coaches.
“I didn’t think I’d be able to do it when I started,” she says after steady 3x weekly workouts. “It’s easier now than it was eight months ago. I look forward to going. It’s the highlight of my day.”
Lori’s feeling great about her future with Alloy.
“I’m hoping to be the woman who’s still there working out when I’m 80.”

If you are 40 and over, you’ve probably noticed something frustrating: the carbs, fat, and protein rules you used to live by in regard to nutrition don’t seem to work anymore.
After 40, balance beats extremes every time. Understanding how carbs, fat, protein, and total intake work together—not against each other—is the key to feeling better, performing better, and aging with strength instead of frustration.
Your metabolism doesn’t “break” after 40 — your body just changes:
* Muscle is harder to maintain
* Insulin sensitivity shifts
* Recovery slows
Carbs are not the enemy! It’s how and when you eat them. Best strategy?
* Pair them with protein
* Choose whole foods (veggies, fruit, rice, potatoes)
* Eat more around training days
Fats are essential, smart. They are calorie dense. Focus on quality vs. quantity:
* Olive oil
* Avocado
* Nuts & seeds
Protein is non‑negotiable, key for:
* Maintaining muscle
* Supporting metabolism
* Controlling appetite

Question: Our daughter keeps telling us that we need to be strong. But honestly, why would we want to lift weights?
Answer: Your daughter is right! Strength training is absolutely essential to healthy living as we get older. We’re not talking about body building, but practicing strength training to maintain or grow enough muscle to continue functioning throughout life.
See, we all lose muscle mass as we age. And we need muscle to do anything – literally! When you see an older person who can’t stand off the couch, it’s often because of no muscle.
Strength training with us is easy, safe, and fun. You’ll be able to carry in groceries, play with children, and enjoy activities. And, no, you won’t get “big and bulky.” Trust us: Young men spend great time and effort to make noticeable bodybuilding gains. It doesn’t just happen.
Call today for your free initial consultation. You can even bring your daughter.
Or, you know, NOT. Up to you.

'Progressive Overload' Is Key to Muscle Growth
Your body adapts to what you ask it to do. To keep getting stronger, it needs the right kind of challenge over time.
That’s the idea behind progressive overload, a principle behind our strength training programs that often means increasing the amount of weight you lift, the reps, or the intensity.
We build this into every member’s plan. Your coaches track what you’re doing and adjust resistance at a pace that makes sense for you. The goal is keeping the progress steady, without plateaus, burnout or injury.
Smart strength training is fun and effective. We’d love to show you. Call today for your free initial consultation.

January means fresh starts, but sometimes just an experiment can be healthy, too.
Dry January has been growing since its 2012 launch as a British public health initiative. It’s not meant as a detox for people with alcohol dependency, but for those who want to take a break from imbibing.
Makes sense after the holidays, right? Health advocates say it’s helpful to take a break now and then for:
* Better sleep
* More energy
* Weight loss
* Clearer skin
Even among non-alcoholics, heavy drinking is rough on physical and mental health, increasing the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, depression, anxiety and more.
Studies come out frequently that suggest no amount of alcohol is good for us.
Give Dry January a try if you feel like it. But if you think you have a problem, speak with a counselor, healthcare professional, or recovery organization.

Remember to Move a Bit Today
Some days aren’t about hitting it hard at the gym. But movement is still important and can even make a holiday more fun. Here are five simple ways to get in purposeful movement on any day, including a family holiday with a lot of sitting and eating.
1. Take a post-meal walk.
Just 15 minutes around the block. Bring along some of the family or a pet, or just enjoy a brief break alone.
2. Do a “commercial break” routine.
Every time there’s a TV break, do 10 squats, 10 counter push-ups, and 20 marching steps. Get everyone involved. It’ll be fun.
3. Get friendly with the floor.
Sit in a circle on the floor to open gifts. Get down there to play with kids (and back up again). Do a little stretching at some point in the day.
4. Note all the functional fitness of the day.
Squat to the low kitchen cabinets… Reach and twist to put away dishes… Crouch down to pick up wrapping paper.
5. Break out the new fitness gifts.
Did someone get resistance bands? Dumbbells? A virtual reality headset? Have fun!
Purposeful movement can be a part of every day. If you’re a member, we’ll see you soon. If not, what are you waiting for? Make an appointment for your free initial consultation, the gift to healthier, happier living.
