Diving Deeper Into the Science of the Ocean!
A huge congratulations to Jessica, Emmet, Eric, Jim, and Jacob for successfully completing the Science of Diving Specialty this past weekend!
This course takes divers beyond the basics and into the fascinating “why” behind what we do underwater. From dive physics and physiology to decompression theory and equipment design, these divers spent the weekend expanding their knowledge and gaining a deeper understanding of how our bodies, gear, and environment interact beneath the surface.
Their curiosity, engagement, and willingness to dive into the details made this class an absolute blast to teach. The Science of Diving is one of the most valuable specialties for any diver looking to truly understand the mechanics behind safe and confident diving—and this group knocked it out of the park!
Please join us in celebrating these awesome divers on their achievement!

When most people hear DAN DFA, they assume it only applies to dive emergencies. The reality is very different. The skills taught in DAN DFA — CPR, AED use, oxygen administration, first aid, and basic life support — are skills that can be used anywhere, at any time.
This week, on his way to work, Drago approached a red light just moments after a motor vehicle versus motorcycle accident had occurred. He immediately pulled to a safe location, activated his hazard lights, grabbed the trauma kit from his vehicle, and went to assist.
Roswell Police arrived seconds before he did. After identifying himself as a trained emergency first responder, Drago was asked to stabilize the victim’s cervical spine. He maintained manual stabilization, kept the individual calm and responsive, and monitored their condition until advanced care arrived. The victim was conscious, breathing, and had no visible bleeding, though experiencing lower back and right-side pain. Within minutes, Roswell Fire Department arrived and took over patient care.
This story is not about recognition. It is about preparedness.
There were many bystanders present. Most wanted to help — but none were trained to step in. Situations like this happen far more often than we think. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were over 6.14 million police-reported crashes in 2023 — an average of 16,822 crashes per day across the United States.
Emergencies are not limited to vehicle accidents. Cardiac events, strokes, falls, traumatic injuries, and medical emergencies happen at home, at work, at the gym, and in our communities every single day.
DAN DFA training equips people with the confidence and skills to act instead of standing by. You do not need to be a diver to take this course. You simply need the desire to be prepared when the moment arises.
If you would like to earn your certification or renew your existing one, reach out directly to the shop at 770-992-3772 or go online to https://alpharetta.diventures.com/courses/diving-first-aid to see all available DAN dates. Preparedness matters. Training matters. When something unexpected happens, you will be glad you took the time to be ready.
