Meet Mr. Gillen
Mr. Gillen began his martial arts journey as a freshman in high school in March of 2022. What first caught his attention was a Bo Staff seminar, and that experience sparked a new passion for training. Although he had previously trained in Kajukenbo for five years, he felt himself growing apart from it and was ready for a new challenge.
Now, having recently graduated high school, Mr. Gillen continues to grow both as a martial artist and as an instructor. One of his favorite parts of teaching is building relationships with students and watching their progress over time. Whether it’s helping a beginner gain confidence or seeing an advanced student reach a new goal, he enjoys being part of their journey.
His message to every student is simple:
Take pride in your work, stay consistent, and keep going.
Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but with effort and perseverance, great things are possible. Mr. Gillen is excited to continue helping students grow both on and off the mat.

What a great evening!
We loved being out in the community, meeting new faces, catching up with familiar ones, and sharing what we’re passionate about.
The best part was seeing so many young people step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and leave with a little more confidence than they started with.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello. We had a blast and are already looking forward to the next Meet Me in the Street event! ❤️🖤

ATA Leadership is for students who want to grow beyond their current rank. It’s an opportunity to build confidence, develop stronger character, and learn how to positively influence those around you.
Leadership students learn the value of service, responsibility, and leading by example. They become mentors, role models, and an important part of helping our school community grow.
The lessons learned in Leadership go far beyond martial arts and help prepare students for success in all areas of life.
Take the next step in your journey.
Ask an instructor how you can become part of ATA Leadership. 🔴⚫️🥋

I quit martial arts when I was a blue belt.
Not because it was too hard.
Not because I wasn’t capable.
I simply lost interest.
Looking back, I often wonder what would have happened if I had stayed focused and continued putting in the work.
That’s why I believe showing up matters so much.
When you truly show up, work hard, and stay consistent, amazing things happen. Confidence grows. Skills improve. Opportunities appear. You become capable of things you never thought possible.
The results don’t happen overnight. They come from the classes nobody sees, the days you don’t feel like training, and the decision to keep going anyway.
You may not see it today, but every time you step on the mat and give your best effort, you’re building the person you’ll become tomorrow.
Keep showing up. Your future self will thank you. 🥋❤️

Testing is about more than what happens on the mat. ❤️🖤
People see the belt. They don’t always see the rides to class, the encouragement after tough days, the extra practice at home, or the moments students wanted to give up but kept going.
They don’t see the teamwork between families and instructors — all working together to help a child grow stronger, more confident, and more disciplined.
Every test is a reminder that growth takes consistency, support, and belief.
To our students: keep showing up.
To our parents: thank you for trusting us with your children and walking this journey with us every step of the way. 👊

Meet Mr. Doria
Mr. Doria started martial arts after a friend invited him to try a class. He thought it looked fun, and his parents wanted him to learn self-defense and confidence. After starting, he quickly grew to love training.
As a color belt, he enjoyed learning new skills and finding his place in martial arts. When he reached camo belt, he really connected with sparring and enjoyed the challenge of every match.
As an instructor, Mr. Doria enjoys helping students overcome challenges and grow stronger on and off the mat. He loves seeing students improve and gain confidence.
As he works toward his 3rd Degree Black Belt, he is focused on staying active, training with students, and continuing to grow as an instructor.
