Some changes are coming to Utah Great Outdoors workshops and seminar structure.
Utah Great Outdoors LLC does not specialize in any one specific sport. Currently we teach core principles that apply across multiple disciplines.
The demand for certifications and sport specific training has greatly increased. Utah Great outdoors will continue to hold generalized workshops, however due to the demand we are in the process of developing certifications and workshops for individual sports. We will continue to hold workshops at rock bottom prices. Our purpose is and has always been “learn something do something” or in other words we want to teach you what you need to do to get out and enjoy our wonderful state, experience something new, see somewhere different.
Our workshop and certification structure will be broken down to 4 levels. This will apply both to generalized workshops and sport specific workshops. Many workshops will cover multiple levels. Also note that in most cases anyone is welcomed to any level of workshop regardless of your background.

The levels are as follows:
1: Introduction- Intro will teach you the very basics of what you need to know to get into a sport. Items such as ethics, culture, terminology, style, gear and basic skills to learn. Someone with an intro level course should only go on trips with the close guidance of someone with guide/rescue level skills. Most Intro courses will also cover Participant level skills so you can be an active participant rather than a “tag a long”.
2: Participant- This will cover basic skills needed to be a valued person on a trip. These will cover basic core principles that apply to the sport. The goal of a participant level person is to be able to be active participant on a trip and help the leader. Should something happen to the leader on your trip you should have enough skills to get out on your own.
3: Leader- Leader workshops cover skills needed to do a solo trip independently or to take a group with you. Those who have leader skills but do not have many trips under their belt are not encouraged to take beginners on trips with you. Contingency and small party rescue considerations will be covered in Leader level courses. Leader level courses also cover sport specific specialized techniques (pothole escape in canyoneering is one example)
4: Guide/Rescue- In depth training with specialized techniques. Someone with guide/rescue level skills should be able to safely get someone with no experience or someone who is injured through a trip. Guide/leader level skills include an in depth knowledge and problem solving techniques. Standard methods do not apply.
