“Playing soccer has always been an outlet for me, and I always feel better after playing soccer. Coming out and fully transitioning has only made me a better player. I'm more comfortable on and off the field. I like playing for Howard Fire and having Armando, Heidi, Tatum, and Kaylie as my coaches because I've always felt included there and I've always been treated with respect. The team feels like family. Everyone on the team makes me feel welcome, and I always felt like I can be myself." - AJ Uhl
We are so honored to have AJ and all his coaches share their experiences with us about creating inclusive team cultures for trans players and players of all gender identities.
AJ shared his lived experiences during the convention this year and it made a huge impact on all who attended.
At a time when there's so many messages of exclusion, hate and sadness for trans athletes we wanted to share these messages of joy to celebrate this year's Trans Day of Visibility.
Thank you to all of AJ's coaches for giving him the opportunity to truly thrive as a player and human. Thank you also to Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association for providing financial support to AJ and his family to attend the convention!

As the NCAA Div II Festival begins today, our coaching community is making a unified statement that Seattle Pacific University's anti-LGBTQ+ hiring practices are unacceptable. You hurt one of us, you hurt all of us.
This joint statement was crafted together across multiple coach advocacy groups at United Soccer Coaches. We will continue to advocate for the NCAA to appropriately vet their partners for future events so that all athletes and coaches can feel safe and focus on the job of striving for athletic greatness!

"I have known Dean Linke for 30 years. As chair of our LGBTQ & Allies advocacy group, I’ve seen him in our corner many times. This time he made a mistake. He apologized on air and today. This is sincere and powerful. He’s learning. We all are. Thank you Dean!"
