It was fitting to see the son of a mountain running legend put the Service baseball team back on top in the Cook Inlet Conference.
Braun Precosky stood tall at the dish and on the bump, reaching base twice and scoring a run while coming on to pitch the final inning to nail down a 4-2 victory over South Anchorage in the CIC Tournament title game at Mulcahy Stadium.

The Dimond boys soccer team is making up for lost time. Although the Lynx are regular qualifiers for the ASAA Division I state tournament, they haven’t played for a title since 2018.
That changed on Friday after Dimond beat defending champion West Anchorage 3-1 in the state semifinals in the Valley, advancing to Saturday’s final against West Valley.
On the girls side, unbeaten South Anchorage will face upstart Wasilla for the state championship.

It may have been the prelims, but Tri-Valley’s Taylor Eddington wasted no time rewriting the record books at the ASAA State Track & Field Championships in Anchorage.
The senior from Healy sped to the fastest time in Alaska prep history in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking 43.31 seconds to trim 0.18 off the 10-year-old state record.

There is a distinctive sound when Service slugger Rilen Niclai squares up the ball, reminiscent of a firecracker. Or a cannon.
Alaska’s reigning Gatorade Player of the year showcased his immense power once again on Thursday, belting his seventh home run well over the left-field wall at Mulcahy Stadium. Niclai’s no-doubt dinger coupled with the pitching of Connor Monahan led the top-seeded Cougars to an 11-1 win over Dimond in the semifinals of the Cook Inlet Conference Tournament.

Chugiak’s Mary Jo Landon was in her element on that wet and cold Juneau day.
Landon, the tough-minded senior midfielder known to train rain-snow-or-shine, had already scored once as the Mustangs and Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears entered second half stoppage time tied 3-3. Such winning plays have become synonymous with Landon, who entered Thursday’s tournament with 33 goals — the most in the state.

After storming back from a three-run seventh-inning deficit to tie the game on Wednesday, Dimond baseball head coach Matt Madden must have figured he was playing with house money because he went for broke.
Rolling the dice with the game on the line, Madden called for a two-strike su***de squeeze play and Dax O’Brien executed the bunt to perfection to provide the Lynx with a 10-9 walk-off win over West Anchorage at Mulcahy Stadium.
PLUS - Cooper Marks pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief and Sampson Young broke the game open with a two-run triple in the sixth inning as the Mustangs advanced to the final four in the CIC Tournament.

The 6-foot-1 West Anchorage forward calls last year’s state semifinal victory “probably the best game of my life.”
It’s not hard to see why. Luca Driscoll, then a junior, buried a SportsCenter Top 10-like goal, a perfectly placed strike from over 30 yards away. After turning over the opposition, Driscoll dribbled once, pattered up to the rolling soccer ball and unloaded a perfectly placed shot into the top of the net.

On paper, West Valley pitcher Rochelle Phipps had a rough day in Saturday’s 15-0 loss to top-ranked Colony. But in reality, Phipps kinda killed it, doing something no other Alaska high school hurler has accomplished this season: hold slugger Taylor Passard hitless for an entire game.
The state’s top home run hitter went 0-for-3 against Phipps after two groundballs and a flyout to centerfielder Jordan Campbell, snapping Passard’s 25-game hitting streak.
PLUS - Chugiak’s Isabel Sjostrand had a game for the ages last week at the Loretta French Fields in Eagle River. Bartlett's Luisa and Saniyah Faumuina combined for several home runs and RBIs against Service.
