❄️ Tri Flake Winter Triathlon is coming up - CALLING FOR A HEAT WAVE... cause all our athletes and volunteers are soooo HOT ☀️☀️☀️ ❄️

It’s been DAMN COOLLLDDDD for weeks… and you know Race Director Rebecca will be on site, so naturally I went ahead and ordered better weather for race day I mean at least 15 degrees ABOVE ZERO... But let's be honest with ourselves here, if you know Rebecca, you know... we like to say IYKRYK... Right?
Also, Alaska delivery timelines are… unpredictable.... I mean most of us are still waiting for Christmas packages that were ordered last year to arrive! (get it, last year?)
What is guaranteed? Great volunteers, suffering athletes, a pre-race meeting in freezing temps that never ends... they all help make this event happen.
BUT WE CAN NOT DO IT WITHOUT THE GREAT VOLUNTEERS... If you like being part of something uniquely Alaskan, don’t mind bundling up, and enjoy supporting athletes doing slightly wild things in winter — we’d love to have you out there with us.
📍 Fun Swag for all Volunteers
🧤 Good excuse to try out that cold weather gear you own
💙 Big appreciation, good vibes, and a front-row seat to a very cool event.. .(see what I did there?)
FOLLOW THIS LINK and pick what you want to do and for how long you want to do it for!! WE APPREICATE YOU!!!

Tri-Flake Winter Triathlon Update - The 2025 Tri-Flake Winter Triathlon is Cancelled.
Two of our race directors (Andy and Jason) went out to Kincaid today to survey the trail conditions. We found them slightly better than we anticipated, but still not nearly to the level we would need to hold a fun, competitive, and most importantly, safe event. Kincaid Park is one of the best possible venues for a race like this, with their snowmaking capabilities, extensive trail network, and top-notch groomers, but even that could not overcome Mother Nature this time. While some parts of the race could be done on modified courses, even those would still be marginal and not good or safe for those less experienced and anyone not properly equipped for the icy conditions. Additionally, the parking lots and stadium are currently solid ice, making for potentially hazardous conditions even outside of the race itself. The forecast for the remainder of the week does not look like there is enough potential for new snow to improve the conditions.
In 22 years, this is only the 2nd time we have ever had to cancel any event and the first time in the 9 years that this race has been around that we have had to cancel this particular race. It is not something we take lightly. We are racers ourselves and fully understand the commitment people put in to prepare for these events, both in training and scheduling. As much as we want to make sure the event happens every time, we can't overlook the safety of our participants and volunteers.
For all those who were registered, please watch your e-mails for information regarding the options for refunds or deferrals.
Keep an eye on the race webpage and here on Facebook for the dates for next year's race once we lock that in. Also, don't forget about our other two events, the Hammerman Triathlon scheduled for July 12th, 2025, and the Moose Nugget Triathlon scheduled for July 27th, 2025.

We know you are all out there waiting with bated breath, sharpening your ice skates and digging those old hocky pads out of the closet. We continue to watch the weather and cross our fingers that we will get a dump of snow, but so far things aren't looking too promising.
We will make a call as to whether we go ahead with the race or have to cancel by 6:00pm tomorrow (Tuesday). We understand people make plans around these events and we want to respect that. We also have volunteers and other groups (medics, trail grooming, etc...) that need to know the status as early as possible.

Mother nature has us guessing. We are sure you are looking at the forecast just like we are and wondering what we will see over the next week. Right now, we are in a bad weather pattern that seems to be going back and forth between rain and snow. Yesterday, things would have been too icy to hold much of an event. Today, it would probably go on just fine with the new snow. What will tomorrow and next week bring? Your guess is as good as ours.
We just wanted to let you know that we are watching the weather and keeping our fingers crossed. We fully hope to be able to hold the full event as planned, in the run/bike/ski format. As long as we get snow as the last form of precipitation before race day, I feel we should be in good shape. If rain comes in as the last thing, we may be forced to make some changes.
Athlete safety is of the utmost importance to us. If we feel the conditions for one or all parts of the race are not safe, we will adjust accordingly.
If conditions are good, we will hold the event as planned. If there are issues that impact one of the legs of the event, we will evaluate if we are able to hold a reduced event, something like a duathlon format with the remaining legs. If multiple legs are impacted, we will consider cancellation; however, that is our last resort and that won't be done until we are very confident of what conditions will be.
Please help by doing your snow dances and keeping your fingers crossed for good weather over this next week. Stay tuned to this page for any updates and announcements. If you have any questions, please post them below and we will try to answer them as best we can.
