Client Spotlight: Tom’s Transformation
When Tom first walked through our doors at 65 years old and 345 pounds, the goal wasn’t six pack abs or extreme workouts it was something much more real: getting his life back.

We started with what mattered most.

His first milestone?
Getting up off the couch without using his hands. Something many people take for granted, but for Tom, it was a huge win. From there, the progress kept building. Not long after, Tom accomplished something that would have been unthinkable before, he moved heavy furniture out of his third-floor apartment in under an hour… a task that previously would have taken him days.

Then came a moment that really put things into perspective.

On a 7 stadium baseball trip, Tom:
• Walked the cobblestone streets of New Orleans with confidence
• Navigated the entire trip without limitation
• And for the first time in years… didn’t need a seatbelt extender on any flight!!

Yesterday , Tom weighed in at 298 pounds, he broke 300!! More importantly, he’s moving, living, and experiencing life in a completely different way!!! Now on to 250!!!!

Katie by decision! All three judges, 29-28 for the W!!! Katie did an amazing job controlling the pace, show casing her defensive skills and dictating where the fight went. A solid showing!!! Girls got hands!

Whats up everybody? Well… obviously the fight didn’t go as we planned but I still couldn’t be prouder of Rylan, This was a big step up in competition for his 1st pro fight and he didn’t hesitate. Regardless of the outcome he was the man in the arena and that takes courage most don’t possess. That being said, we did want to take a minute and address the outcome, thank supporters, and set the tone for what comes next.

From Rylan; “Training camp was strong. Preparation was dialed in. I was ready. We had a solid game plan, and were fully ready to execute it. Unfortunately, something came up last minute that took me out of the mindset I needed to perform at my best. That’s on me. No excuses, just honesty.

Thank you to everyone who believed in me, showed love, and had my back. Your support and belief in me means everything. I promise, you’re going to see the version of me you were expecting. I owe it to all of you, and I owe it to myself. This journey is far from over.

“To my opponent, thank you for the opportunity. It was an honor to share the cage with you. Know this isn’t the last time our paths will cross. We’ll see each other again soon.”

Thank you to and all the AFC fans!!

As a father, I agree completely! Nobody ever has the right to put their hands on you!! defending yourself is respecting yourself! Boundaries are important!!

I had a student years ago who was given in-school suspension for defending herself. The story was simple:

A boy pushed her.
She told him to stop.
He grabbed her wrists.
She told him to stop.
He didn’t.
So she dropped him with a clean, sharp kick that ended the discussion.

I wrote about it then because it mattered, and here I am again, because it’s happened again, with another young girl who did everything right and still paid the price for it.

Different year. Different school. Same broken system.

She didn’t escalate. She didn’t provoke. She didn’t act out of anger. She defended her boundaries when the adults tasked with protecting her refused to.

And what’s her reward? Suspension.

So what’s her takeaway supposed to be? What are other girls supposed to learn? What about kids who freeze because they’ve spent their whole lives being told to wait for help that isn’t coming?

Zero tolerance is the abdication of responsibility masquerading as policy.

It’s a shortcut for people who don’t want to think, don’t want to lead, and don’t want to apply nuance. It creates victims and emboldens the very behavior it claims to deter.

Telling a child they’re wrong for defending their own body is one of the fastest ways to create an adult who second-guesses themselves when it matters most.

Not here.

Here, we teach kids to fight when the moment calls for a fight.

Sometimes that means working harder to get into a trade school or college. Sometimes it means asking for a raise. Sometimes it means confronting depression. Sometimes it means stepping in for someone weaker. And sometimes, like in this case, it means slapping the kid who didn’t understand the word stop.

Self-defense isn’t violence. Self-defense is agency.
Agency is something we will never punish.

By the way, I’m picking up something for her this week: a gift card, a note, something simple. Not as a reward for fighting, but as a reminder of this:

She wasn’t wrong.
She wasn’t the problem.
And she damn sure isn’t alone.
