Two amazing books joining our library today- one is an illustrated book by Archie Rand of the 613 commandments in the Torah ( Bible ) …. The “thou shalts and the thou shalt nots”. The paintings are Impressionistic renderings by the famous artist.
The other book is huge and came in its own box. It is called The Book - and features, through art all the elements throughout the development of civilized history that would make life possible if technology had not been a component. Fascinating.

8 below zero and the icy chill seeps into your bones, into your very soul. Even inside your down jacket, you can feel the solid cold. Birds are quiet, hunched up on the frozen branches of the trees. They try to settle further into the protective branches. The Raven breaths his foggy breath into the icy air. Childrens voices echo in the distance and dogs barking sounds plaintive. The mountains surrounding the city appear to nestle in closer to the warmth that the city gives off. It is cold. The cold is a palpable presence. Homeless souls hurry to find shelter. The sky is blue and the dormant sun is only a decoration, not functional. It is cold. Solid cold.

Finished watching the series called Mare of Easttown on Max. This was a series written by Craig Zobel for HBO originally in 2021. Starring Kate Winslett who easily changes her lively British accent for an American one. She is absolutely brilliant in this story of a Detective in a small town who is beset with crushing personal trauma but who can’t shake her training as a Detective when several girls go missing and one is found murdered. It does not contain the usual violence and raw brutality of a lot of recent series. It is a true who-dun-it with the suspects changing and morphing and is a riveting binge worthy drama. You begin to really care about the characters and feel like you just don’t want the series to end. But Alas, it was a limited 7 episodes. If you can find this one , go watch it. It is not a typical predictable story and it will stay with you awhile.

Today is the first day of Russian Christmas! I am making chicken soup and matzoh balls. We have now had 82” of snow this season! More snow than any other USA city! Yay us! ( ummm I guess!)

I don’t know who I just yelled at - I hope it wasn’t my son and his family who live next door, but I HATE FIREWORKS! My dog nearly has a heart attack and they were setting them off right on the snow dump mountain in the middle of my cul d’sac. I called the cops and I hope they fine these people who are so thoughtless and set off mainly noise all over my neighborhood. It is against the law and people just don’t care. It gives me a headache to have my dog barking and climbing up my body whimpering! Grrrrrrrrr——-

I am losing my hair which makes me sad but for Christmas I bought myself a wig! Not expensive either - so this is me but not me - since it is not my own thin hair—-

Two things I wanted to do on our anniversary today- find the white Raven and visit Snowzilla our Giant Snowman! In the extreme cold we found, in the alley behind the bicycle shop telltale group of oglers with cameras pointing to a tree. We could hardly negotiate the Alley through the group of excited folks with cameras and cell phones pointing at a nearby tree. Moshe let me out and I ambled toward a nice man with a young boy asking if this was Anchorage White Raven Spottings crowd- he pointed to the place where the beautiful Raven was perched but just as I aimed my phone - some fool came down the Alley honking his horn. Our Olaff took flight up to the top of a high apartment building and when I tried to crane my head up I lost my balance without my cane which I left in the car—- I texted Moshe to come back to pick me up and we parked briefly allowing me to get s few shots from the truck— he is magnificent! Just to see him, to be part of the excitement was awesome!

So the ongoing Kitchen remodel saga continues with the necesary glitches and hitches- the electrician came out to bring the kitchen up to code and it became a sitcom- uh oh! He loudly exclaimed—-( you never want an electrician to say “Uh Oh”) apparently the outlets were sporting wrong wiring that kept tripping the circuits and he says two of them had two hot wires instead of one neutral and one hot- so he would go from one wall outlet to another and mumble to himself and shake his head- so after many hours he migrated to the front room then the art studio and the upshot of it all is that we have no TV no internet , no electricity in the front room— he will be back tomorrow. Sooo- everything worked when the kitchen was not up to code - not proper wiring within so many feet of a water source- but now, the kitchen lights work and the kitchen works but my studio, front room, internet and lights do not work! He will return tomorrow.
