If you listen closely, you can almost hear it: The first reel screaming, the guide saying, “that’s a good one” and your buddy pretending he’s not jealous. Mark your calendars, it’s coming soon.

Chum salmon don’t get a lot of love… mostly because they look like they lost a bet. But here’s what people don’t consider: pound-for-pound, they’re one of the hardest-fighting salmon in Alaska.
They show up in big numbers, they’re aggressive, and they’ll happily chase down a swung fly like it insulted their family. Which makes them perfect for anglers who actually want to fish instead of waiting for the one perfect bite.
Unlike a majority of the other salmon species that spend their early years in freshwater streams, the Chum migrate almost immediately to the open ocean.
So yeah, they’re not winning any beauty contests but they’ll absolutely earn your respect.
Chum are rearing to go from the start, and so are we.

Sitting and (im)patiently waiting until spring morphs into summer and winter packs its bags for the season. The river is starting to speak again and in no time, the waters of Alaska will be teaming with chrome, tightlines, inquisitive brown bears, and stories that get better every time you tell it. Personally, we can’t hardly wait.

Some fish impress. Some fish inspire. The King of the North does both.
There’s something different about them—broad shoulders, chrome sides, quiet power. They move through Alaskan rivers like they’ve done it a thousand times before… because they have.
No flash. No drama. Just presence.
Chinook are the largest of all Pacific salmon, built for distance, strength, and survival. Their migrations stretch for hundreds of miles against current, cold, and time itself.
In Alaska, they aren’t just part of the ecosystem, they help define it.
