Five noteworthy community leaders formed a vision, which then turned into a study that was administrated to determine community needs and interests in a local YMCA. The determination of the community leaders, as well as a structured plan, created a Christian based organization that was established in June of 1999. We opened the doors to the Breeden YMCA on January 3, 2000 at 5:00 a.m. We were renamed the YMCA of Steuben County in October 2010.

50 Miles and Still Going! 🏊♂️
We are honored to celebrate Chuck Campbell for reaching the 50-mile milestone in the 2026 YMCA of Steuben County Swim Challenge!
If you come to the YMCA on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday mornings, chances are you’ve met Chuck. If you haven’t, introduce yourself!
He has a heart of gold and enjoys a conversation with old and new friends!
Fun fact: Chuck is also a songwriter and has been writing songs inspired by his experiences at the YMCA of Steuben County

🚨 August Pool Schedule Updates
Please note the following scheduled pool closures and adjusted hours during the month of August:
Saturday, August 1st
The Lap Pool and Open Swim will open at 10:00 AM due to the Youth Triathlon & Adult Super Sprint (Therapy Pool and Sauna will remain open normal hours)
Annual Pool Maintenance:
August 9th –15th
Lap Pool CLOSED
Therapy Pool CLOSED
August 16th – 22nd
Therapy Pool CLOSED (maintenance continues)

The YMCA of Steuben County team had a great time at the Lake James Antique Boat Show yesterday, helping keep kids entertained with a fun hands-on activity! 🎨⛵
Kids had the opportunity to take part in the annual activity of hand-painting their own wooden boats, creating unique keepsakes while enjoying a day surrounded by beautiful antique boats. It was wonderful to see so much creativity, smiling faces, and families making memories together.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to paint with us, we had a blast and can’t wait to see you at the next community event!

On Friday, we wrapped up our final YMCA of Steuben County Safety Around Water summer session at Fox Lake! ☀️
Over the past several weeks, kids learned essential water safety skills including self-rescue, rescue techniques, environmental awareness, swim skills, paddleboard safety, Indiana boating laws, and lake etiquette. Our hope is that every child leaves with the knowledge and confidence to enjoy the water responsibly.
A special thank you to Detective Todd Johnson of Steuben County Sheriff's Office for taking the time to speak with the kids about Indiana boating laws and safety, and to Indiana Department of Natural Resources DNR Conservation Officer Kyle Buchanan for sharing his expertise and helping reinforce the importance of safe boating and water recreation at Crooked Lake.
We are also incredibly grateful to Jim and Karen Huber, the Lake James Association, and the Pleasant Township Trustee for their financial support & Steuben County 4-H Program Indiana, Steuben County Park Steuben County Event Center, Lake James Christian Camp And Retreat Center & Fox Lake IN Association for their partnerships! The generosity of our community helped make this program possible and allowed us to provide these life-saving lessons to area children at no cost to families.
Thank you to all of our volunteers, instructors and families for making this another amazing summer hosting SAW. Together, we’re helping create safer swimmers and a safer 101 Lakes community.
