Four Ann Arbor Kenshi recently returned from the Shorinji Kempo World Taikai in Tokyo and the International Study Session at Shorinji Kempo Hombu (headquarters) in Tadotsu, Japan. Nearly 500 Kenshi from around the world attended the Study Session, where this picture was taken. We will be posting more pictures from our trip soon.

We spent another wonderful Memorial Day weekend celebrating the 43rd Annual Cornell Shorinji Kempo Camp recently near Ithaca, NY. The instruction from Sakuyama Sensei was incredible, the weather was perfect, and we enjoyed practicing with old friends and new ones from the Boston, Chicago, Seattle, World Bank, South Florida, Berkeley, Mt. Diablo, and Montreal Branches. We are already looking forward to the 44th annual camp next year.

Congratulations to Asim Khan for achieving the rank of Shodan - first degree black belt! Years of hard work and remarkably consistent practice paid off with a great examination performance.

I had the chance to spend some time in Europe in August. One highlight was attending a couple of practices with the Shorinji Kempo Branch in Basel, Switzerland. A great thing about being a Kenshi is getting a warm welcome whenever I visit another Branch. Many thanks to Pellegrino Sensei and the Basel Kenshi for continuing that tradition.

After a 2-year break due to COVID, we held the 42nd Cornell Shorinji Kempo Training Camp during the last weekend in May. It was a smaller group than usual, but it was wonderful to be back - training, preparing meals, cleaning, and talking with old friends and new ones. We had a couple of first time attendees, a couple who have been attending for over 40 years, and many in between. But, even after a two year break, the spirit of Cornell Camp remains the same. It's an experience we look forward to every year.
