Our FIRST Featured Fisherman Friday 🎣 of 2022 is none other than our team’s very own president, Nicholas Ringler! Nick is from Beverly Hills, MI, and spends a lot of his time fishing lakes, ponds, and rivers around the state, including his favorite lake to fish in Northern Michigan, Hubbard Lake!

Of all the species Michigan has to offer, Nick’s favorite one to chase is the smallmouth bass. He prefers to fish with spinning gear, and quite fittingly his favorite lure is the jerkbait. Although it was not caught on a jerkbait, Nick’s most memorable catch was a master angler burbot that he managed to pull out of Lake Huron while night fishing in the freezing cold 🥶 This burbot is only one of the 6 master angler fish that Nick has caught in his lifetime, more than any other fisherman on the team!

If you ever run into Nick after a day of fishing, you may (hopefully not!) hear him utter his favorite fishing quote, “The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.” 🤣

The fall bite is here!

These mondo fish were caught on a quick trip up to northern Michigan, but fish like these are all over the state! Take advantage of the dropping temperatures and get out there to catch some big fall fatties!

The boys are sitting in 67th place with a 14-10 limit after day 1 on Saginaw Bay.

Not many people know U-M has a fishing team, but we do—and we’re pretty good at it too! The University of Michigan Fishing team, which is supported by University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability, will compete in the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series after picking up a 5th-place finish (out of 200 teams) in the Lewis Smith Lake Collegiate Tournament.
