2021 CROSS COUNTY TRAIL RACE
It was a great day on the wonderful Cross County Trail this past Sunday! 101 runners recorded finishes in the marathon and half marathon while enjoying this slice of trail heaven in the DC metropolis.
In the marathon there was a come-from-behind victory as Kenny Ames finished first in 3:04:34 after passing Liam Quinn in the last 5K. Both Kenny and Liam - who finished in 3:06:46 - recorded two of the top ten times in the race history. 56 years young John Langan finished third in 3:28:23 which is age graded to a blistering fast 2:58:13!!! For the women Lillian Thomas finished 70 seconds ahead of Farrah Douglas with Katy Bonnstetter taking third female - finish times being 3:58:27, 3:59:37, and 4:01:44.
In the half marathon Anna Everett finished first for the women in 1:42:25. Madeline Cutrone finished second in 1:58:41, and Julie Gladwell finished third in 2:01:37. For the men Sam Posniewski finished first in 1:20:38 to set a new course record!!! Sam Sprecher and Dan Watsula finished second and third respectfully in 1:27:50 and 1:28:40.
The Cross County Trail is a wonderful trail that receives rave reviews by the runners. The fall foliage is an added bonus! The super Lewis High School volunteers also add to the fun of race day. The ninth annual race is planned for Sunday November 6, 2022. See you on the trails!

Sharing an awesome memory for Super Mike!
A GREAT DAY FOR RUNNING IN MONTANA!!!
As is the case with many people, Altis Mike does not particularly like pictures of himself, but...
June 21, 2012 was day 23 of the Run Across America on Trail. The day started at the intersection of HWY 12 and HWY 89 nine miles south of the small town of White Sulpher Springs. After eight miles of running southeast on HWY 89, the route turned left and headed east on the nearly deserted HWY 294. Most of the day's running was on 294, a wonderful marathon length slice of the country that few people see. At the very small town of Martinsdale, HWY 294 turns north but the route continued east on the gravel surfaced Selkirk Road. As I approached mile 40 of the 42 mile day, I passed by a small trestle from the old Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad line which is often referred to as the Milwaukee Road. I had picked up a second - or maybe a third wind - and was moving well on the gravel road when my wife, Heidi, perfectly caught me running by the trestle to create my favorite picture of me. Running memories are the best! May we all create more wonderful running memories in the second half of 2018!

Linganore - Fun running through the beautiful vineyards!
The sixth annual Cross Country Classic will be conducted on Sunday September 26, 2021.
Three distances, 5 mile, 10 mile, and Half Marathon will utilize a scenic 5 mile loop course through the vineyards, fields and surrounding wooded area. The Half Marathon will start at 8:00AM, the 10 Mile will start at 8:15AM, and the 5 Mile will start at 8:30AM.
The Linganore races are a challenge, with portions on a hilly, single track trail through the woods as well as the rolling hills of the vineyards. But “fun running at a great place” might be an apt phrase to describe the event! With excellent wines and beers to try/drink/consume after running, everyone will hopefully enjoy themselves in the vineyard, tasting room, and brewery.
Linganore Winecellars and the Red Shedman Farm Brewery and Hopyard are located just Northwest of Baltimore in beautiful Mt. Airy, MD. More information on these two great venues can be found at http://www.linganorewines.com and at http://redshedman.com. Both will be open for runners and their guests to visit after the race.
