Last night we had parol night and king hall appreciation poster making.

The parol is a traditional part of the Panunulúyan pageant in the nine-day Christmas Novena procession during the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines. It was initially rectangular or oblong in shape and was made with white paper, but eventually came to be made in various shapes and colors. It became standardized to a five-pointed star (symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem) during the American colonial period.[5] It remains an iconic symbol of Filipino Christmas.

A few nights ago was International Culture Night where 16 culture clubs participated culturally specific dishes and dances. Few members of our Fil-Am staff worked hardnfor the past few weeks to perfect the traditional Tinikling dance.

Tinikling is a traditional Philippine folk dance which originated prior to Spanish colonialism in the area. The dance involves at least two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance.

Let’s enjoy a delicious halo-halo with a Halloween twist! 🍨

Ano ang Halo-halo (what is Halo-halo)?

Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert that means “mix-mix.” It’s made with a refreshing combination of shaved ice, sweetened fruits, jellies, beans, and sometimes topped with leche flan, purple yam (ube), and ice cream. It’s a colorful treat that’s perfect for warm weather and great for sharing!

On October 13th, Fil-Am club participated in the 17th Annual Pan-Pacific American Leaders and Mentors Meeting and Dinner. We have attended this event several times in the past and it has become a great event to network and meet Asian-American officers active duty and retired from all Armed Forces.

Sagingan is a celebration of Lanao del Norte’s produce, from fresh produce to a wide variety of handicrafts. It’s a week full of fun when streets are inundated with the bright yellows and enticing greens of bananas, which is the main product of the region.
