The fall colors are starting to make their appearance.
How’s this for a Monday afternoon ride?
Second Meadows is just about as pretty as it gets!

The fall colors have started to make their appearance, and it made for a beautiful ride in today to pack out this bull.
Congratulations to Brock on a successful hunt!
The first set of hunters is in.
Let the fun begin!

We have begun setting camps for the impending hunting seasons! It is going to be a busy fall, and we can’t wait to have everyone here.

Second Meadows is as tranquil as it gets!

Special thanks to David Perez for sharing these pictures from his fishing trip with us.
We really couldn’t do it without our wonderful clients!
Gotta love those Rocky Mountain thunderstorms!
This is the first real rain we have had this summer! We are so grateful for the moisture, and hope it keeps coming to alleviate fire risks.

We love our horses!
We really couldn’t do it without them, and they get all the credit.
Today we had Horton, Apollo, Bonanza, And Dixie, followed by Woodrow, Clifford, Molly, and Budweiser.

A beautiful day for a pack trip!

We were grateful to have Bart Crawford, of Conejos Canyon Outfitters, help us set up the Fish Camp today.
It is always nice to have good neighbors who will help each other out.
We owe CCO a days work now!
The Second Meadows Fish Camp is set and ready for business, with the first group of fishermen going in this week.
Due to the beetle kill, there was extreme danger of a tree falling down on top of the tent at the previous camp location, which we had used for years.
Spade rode the whole of Second Meadows, looking for a suitable alternative, and selected this spot as the new location. Take a look at the map on our website, rainbowtroutoutfitters.com, to see the new location on the map.

We had a cancellation for the second week of July.
The Second Meadows Fish Camp is available!
Come ride, fish, and relax with us!

There’s still time to book a summertime camp with us for plenty of fishing, relaxing, and fun!

There is only one week left to apply for big game licenses for GMU 81!
April 5 is the deadline.

without knowing it’s not the fish they are after’

Throwback to archery season 2021.
Big game applications are now available through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website (cpw.state.co.us).

ATTENTION HUNTERS:
New this year, GMU 81 is now a draw only unit for archery.
We are offering hunts for the archery and first rifle seasons. Both of these are now by draw only.
Apply online at cpw.state.co.us by April 5, 2022.
Don’t wait until the last minute to apply, as the system often gets bogged down during the last day or two.
We are excited about these changes, and hope to offer even better opportunity and experiences to our clients!
Second Meadows is one of our most beautiful destinations. It is the perfect place to go for a pack trip, and the fishing only adds to the excitement!

Happy New Year!
We have published a completely renovated website. The most exciting feature, perhaps, is the new map of our area, with our camps listed for easy viewing. It is perfect for the hunters that want to view where the camps are, and do a little scouting of the area via Google Earth.
Check us out at rainbowtroutoutfitters.com.
We will now begin taking deposits for the 2022 season for pack trips, fishing trips, archery, and the first rifle season.

It’s National Day of the Horse.
We so much appreciate our wonderful string of horses. Without them, we really couldn’t do it!

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! We hope you have a fun, food filled day!
Here, 2021 Wranglers Wyatt and Julia enjoy a feast at our Third Meadows camp.

Fishing in the high country is paradise!
As winter approaches and cold weather sets in, we are already missing those glorious summertime days.
Special thanks to Bill Lemon for sharing this amazing shot.

One last camp came out today, and that wraps up our 2021 season!
We miss our dear friend Ronnie Landers every day, but know he has been with us in spirit all year.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported us this year and used our services. We truly can’t do it without you!

Winter decided to make an appearance yesterday.
A group of first rifle hunters packed in today, to spend a couple days around camp getting acclimated before the season starts.
There was around 12 inches of the white stuff at camp, and though it was sunny, it was a cool day.
Riding through a winter wonderland.

Another home, sweet home set and ready for first rifle next week.

Archery season has wrapped up, and we spent the day pulling one of the hunting camps. There was a couple inches of snow yesterday, but fortunately it melted off quickly and we had a mostly dry day.
How fun are these bear tracks, and the bald eagle in Second Meadows?!
We had the good supervisors along the other day to keep us in line.

Rocky Mountain gold in full swing
Another beautiful fall day in Colorado
Yesterday was something quite spectacular: five moose were spotted in one day!
Two bulls, two cows, and one calf. The bull that didn’t get on film, was much bigger than this one.
Moose were re-introduced into the Creede, CO area in 1986. Over the years their population has expanded, and we have been having moose sightings in our unit for the past five years or so. A lone moose, or a momma with a baby or two is not necessarily uncommon, but to see five in one day, that is bizarre.
Excuse the wobbly footage- my horse didn’t want to stand still.

The ‘office’ views were pretty good today.

We are gearing up for archery hunters, and have been busy getting camps set and ready to go.

Another fishing pack trip in the books.
The weather has turned, and while it is so pleasant right now, it is definitely feeling like fall.
We saw three moose, and the very start of the fall colors.

Fishing pack trips provide endless fun and adventure.
We saw two different black bears, a cow moose and calf, and caught as many fish as we could handle.
Second Meadows is a ride into paradise. It’s almost like stepping back in time to the 1800s, and one can imagine how the trappers and mountain men felt as they went about their days.

Pack trips with good friends, good horses, and great country provide memories that last a lifetime.
Take a peek into one of our camps. It’s got all the amenities you could ask for out of a back country camp.
Just because you are ‘roughing it’, doesn’t mean you have to be uncomfortable!
Third Meadows is all set up and ready for fishermen, pack trips, and later on, hunters!

Ronnie's Parents - Harry and Sara Jean Landers, organized by Jane Van Berkum
It is with great sadness that we tell you that Ronnie, our great friend, outfitter and integral part of the ranch, died on Friday afternoon of a heart attack. It was very quick and final and we were with him. It is a terrible shock and we and his parents and local friends are all still coming to terms with it. Ronnie was larger than life, and he loved life. He had a great sense of humor and he was a brilliant welder, big machinery operator and fixer-of-everything and anything. We know he is up there riding the mountains, and making everyone around him happy - but we will miss him terribly. Happy Trails Ronnie - we love you.

All in a good day's work up in the mountains for Travis Hargrove, a couple of seasons ago. It'll be here again before we know it!

Happy Easter from our family to yours!! Easter is here, which means Spring is here, which means we are that much closer to getting into the mountains!
