What to Wear
• Form-fitting clothes: Wear stretchy leggings and a fitted top so your instructor can see your spinal alignment and form.
• Avoid baggy clothes: Loose garments hide your body position and can get caught in reformer equipment.
• Skip accessories: Leave behind jewelry, zippers, or belts that might scratch equipment or poke you during floor work
What to Bring
• Grip socks: Sticky, non-slip socks are usually required for reformer classes to keep your feet secure on the carriage.
• Water bottle: Stay hydrated before and during your session.
• Pilates mat: Bring a thicker mat if you are attending an off-site mat class that does not provide them
What to Know and Do Beforehand
• Arrive early: Show up 10 to 15 minutes before class to fill out paperwork, meet the instructor, and get familiar with the studio or machine
• Share injuries: Tell your instructor about any past or current pain or injuries so they can provide safe modifications
• Learn the breath: Practice lateral breathing (expanding your ribcage three-dimensionally) rather than pushing your belly out, which helps engage your deep core
