Last night we had a visit from Loir a young judoka from Israel. Our students had so much fun working out with her. Love when we get opportunities like this to meet new judokas, making friendships and helping each other learning together.

Last Saturday we had our Novice Junior Tournament/picnic. It was a great success. While small - we had 20 kids come out and compete. Every competitor had at least 2 matches. A couple kids fought in more than 1 division. We had the care system, referees and Gaiv who ran the pools. Our referees had several first-time referees including one of our junior students Clayton who is 14. The referees did a great job and gained some valuable experience. Everyone did great, loved the competitive spirit and sportsmanship and great food at the picnic portion. Thanks to Matt for cooking hamburgers and hotdogs and our parents who brought food to share. Many of the kids told us how much they loved it and cannot wait for the next tournament so they can compete again. Thanks to Dale City and College Park for sending some of their kids to compete with our kids. Thanks to everyone who came out to help our and support the kids.

Olympic Qualifying goes from June 24 2022 to June 23 2024

World Championships Seniors: Only Senior athletes ranked from 1-100 and Junior athletes ranked 1-16 may compete at the Senior World Championships (Equally ranked athletes, can all participate)

Date to be announced later that the World ranking list cut off for top 100 and seeded athletes for the Senior World Championship.

New weigh in times change to 6pm the evening before competition

Organizers of the Junior and Cadet World Championships cities and regions could have additional wildcards for their local and regional athletes not affecting national federation quotas.
For all participants of Cadet and Junior World Championships minimum technical requirements will be requested under the supervision of the IJF Academy

In the event that the Judo gi does not comply during Gi control the competitors will be given a second chance. If the gi fails again they are disqualified from the competition.

Gi control will now operate from 2 days before the competition and efforts will be made by the host country to have Judo gi's available for purchase.

2 days before will give athletes a chance to purchase another gi if needed and have their back patch sewn on.

Distance of the crossing point of the Judo gi jacket has increased from 20 to 25cm. Gi Jacket must cover buttocks extensively with an additional margin of 5cm

Sokuteki will be made available in the warm up area

Competition Changes

Continuation of techniques will be a score. If there is a stop in action before a technique is continued it will not be a score.

Waza-ari criteria comprises landing on the whole side of the body at 90 degrees or more to the rear or on one shoulder and upper back. A score will be given for a whole side of the body landing even when the elbow is out.

Landing simultaneously on two elbows or hands towards the back is waza-ari for Tori and Shido for Uke. (Two Elbows, Two hands or a combination of both is waza-ari and shido)

Rollover Counter Techniques will no longer be a score where the initial attack is rolled to the back towards the counter attacking or defending Judoka.

Reverse Seoi Nage is now no score and a Shido will be given to anyone attempting it.

Gripping under the belt (grabbing the leg) in the end phase of a throwing technique is allowed if the opponent is already in newaza. If the throwing technique is interrupted, gripping under the belt is a newaza action.

Simultaneous Collar and Lapel grips are allowed if not negative.

Unconventional grip (Belt grip, Two on one side, Cross grip, pistol grip and pocket grip are not traditional grips, if taken time will be allowed for the preparation of an attack

Breaking the grips and immediately taking a grip is allowed.

Breaking the grip and not immediately taking a grip is a shido

Re-tying and arranging Judo gi and hair is allowed once per contest per Judoka. Further occasions are penalized with shido.

Head Diving will be penalized with Hansokomake

New Olympic Cycle, New Judo Rules Judo is a dynamic sport, constantly exposed to new training and competition situations. As a new Olympic cycle is about to begin with the Olympic qualification for Paris 2024 starting in May 2022, the IJF is adapting the refereeing rules to reflect the developmental needs of our sport.
