This is an unpopular thing to say, but NCOs are to blame for all of the out of shape service members...let us explain.
You have a joe fail a PT test, and the solution is fairly clear. NCO says, "they are out of shape, and they need more PT to fix this deficiency." No complaints here. You're probably right. However, when a joe busts tape but passes their PT test, NCOs solve that problem by saying, "they are out of shape, and they need more PT to fix this deficiency." This is where you are wrong Sergeant, but it's not your fault. Here's why.
When you joined the military, you were introduced to fitness. You learned how to do the stretches and fitness programs prescribed. You learned how to run at increasing distances. Your pull-up, push-up, and sit-up game was on point. You had your food provided for you at the DFAC so eating was a task not a decision. For most of your career everything you knew about fitness was, "hey do this."
Now you're an NCO. Now you are the person that says, "hey do this", so the only option you have is to repeat what you've always known about fitness. This is usually some variation of, "if they're fat, it's because they don't do enough PT." Well I hope from the context you can see where we're going with this. YOU'RE WRONG Sergeant, but that's ok. We can help.
We offer nutrition education for anyone who desires to know more about how food works. We offer it to everyone, always have, always will. People go onto our website everyday and subscribe to our newsletter on nutrition.
The reason I have been directing this post towards NCOs is because of our new service for military leaders. We are now offering one day nutrition education seminar geared specifically for military leaders. Pay one flat fee of $0, (that's a really awful way to just say it's free) get as many NCOs in a room as you can get, and allow us to give them a basic understanding of how food intake influences performance on the battlefield.
We will stay and answer questions for as long as we possibly can. Our only goal is for our country's fighting force to be as physically healthy, energetic and lethal as possible. This service is free for leaders because we legitimately care about Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines.
