The first question a good Pilates instructor asks has nothing to do with fitness.
Before a single exercise is chosen, a thoughtful instructor asks about your history. What your body has been through. Where it has been held back. Where you want to go. Not reps, not resistance.
A genuine intake covers far more than a liability form. It touches medical history, lifestyle, movement patterns, and personal goals, because the body that walks in carries all of those things. Pilates is a system for teaching the body to move the way it was designed to, and understanding what has interrupted that design is where every programme must begin.
The questions at the start are not procedural. They are how a skilled instructor builds a complete, individual picture of the whole person, not the presenting complaint alone. When your history, habits, and health foundations shape that first conversation, the sessions that follow are built on real understanding rather than a generic template.
That conversation is the work. And it is the first sign you are in the right hands. 🌿
What does your intake conversation look like? The standard matters.
