Should be a great seminar at an incredible venue!
Until the COVID positivity rate falls below 4.5% in Arlington, we'll continue training outside, weather permitting.
Tonight was borderline too cold, for me. However, Sarah was down to a t-shirt by the end of class.
Congratulations to the yudansha candidates promoted in June 2021!!

Yamada Sensei and all of us at the New York Aikikai are mourning the loss of our friend and teacher, Donovan Waite, 7th Dan Shihan. As you know, he was an integral part of our aikido family for decades. The beauty and power of his technique, his generous and patient teaching, and the meaningful connections he made along the way will remain in our collective spirit. He will be sorely missed!

Probably no surprise, but no class tonight. Xeta washed us out.
Construction of shrine and temple buildings is not enough. ☮️
Consider the ebb and flow of the tide. ☮️
Due to the weather, there will be no class tonight.
Cast off limiting thoughts and return to true emptiness. Stand in the midst of the Great Void. This is the secret of the Way of a Warrior. ☮️
Breathe in and let yourself soar to the ends of the universe; breathe out and bring the cosmos back inside. ☮️
Just added❗️ July 25 seminar 🥋 (deadline to register is the 22nd) with Pat Hendricks: https://t.co/KGAOuRpvaj 8-11 AM PST 😎
Breath is the thread that ties creation together. ☮️
Bravery leads to the spirit of self-sacrifice. ☮️
Bravely face whatever the gods offer. ☮️
Because it is nonresistant, it is victorious from the beginning. ☮️
VA prohibits indoor fitness training, so no outdoors weapons if it is too wet. Tonight there will be NO class.
Regrettably, due to the COVID19 outbreak, the Pat Hendricks Seminar on May 2 & 3 has been canceled. Be safe everyone!
Be grateful even for hardship, setbacks, and bad people. ☮️
We will continue to do weapons training in the grassy corner lot across from the church parking lot in lieu of training inside. Please bring your weapons and wear street clothes. I can lend a set of weapons to anyone who does not have them, which you can hang onto until things return to "normal" whatever and whenever that will be.
Last night I noticed that it got dark at around 8, but every day will get later.
Continue to thoroughly wash your hands before and after keiko. And if you are not feeling well, stay away!
On Saturday, since we have more daylight, we will have a thorough cleaning of the mats, then can train outside while they are drying before putting them back away.
Things could change, but I think with such a small group weapons outdoors is a good solution. This could change as more is learned about the virus, so stay tuned.
If you prefer to stay away during this time, please let me know. You can do suburi, try both sides of the partner practices, do air aikido, watch videos and read articles and books, etc.. Feel free to contact me if you want more suggestions.
Take time to reflect on what do you want your aikido to be. We are all in it for different things. You will get out of it as much as you put into it.
Dojo status: Due to Coronavirus, we will be doing weapons in the grassy corner lot across from church parking lot until further notice.
Good article in dealing with coronavirus in the dojo. Getting over pneumonia, i am particularly sensitive.

Aikido of Arlington, led by Yvonne Thelwell sensei (6th dan), practices aikido in the Iwama-ryu tradition. The dojo was founded by Donny Lyon sensei (4th dan) in 1989. Both Lyon sensei and Thelwell sensei spent time studying as uchi-deshi under Morihiro Saito sensei in Iwama, Japan. After Lyon sensei's passing in 1996, Thelwell sensei—being a sempai at the dojo—stepped in as dojo-cho and chief instructor. Thelwell sensei is assisted by several yudansha. Aikido of Arlington is part of the California Aikido Association Division 1 under Pat Hendricks shihan (7th dan).
