Have fun, get fit and make amazing new friends in a fun and encouraging fitness environment! We are a CrossFit dedicated gym in the heart of Arlington, VA.
The Ballston CrossFit (BCF) team has always had a passion for sports, health and fitness. Our gym and workout programs are completely designed around driving results for our members. CrossFit coaches lead members through an hour long workout of the day (WOD), coaching athletes on technique and encouraging you to work hard. We provide the best in fitness training, coaching and programming for all f
itness levels (our workouts are scalable so everyone can be challenged and get fit). Our program efficiently combines the most effective methods of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, kettlebells and high intensity cardio. At Ballston CrossFit you will be challenged and motivated every day with constantly varied high intensity functional workouts, resulting in a greatly enhanced level of fitness. To us, fitness is a state of mind, a way of living. It shows up in the way you talk, walk, sleep, eat, work, play, dress and relax. It is the physical embodiment of the character traits of honor, courage, confidence, discipline, integrity, responsibility, dedication, and joy. It is also instrumental in reducing the immediate and cumulative effects of stress and anxiety. We have found that the more fit a person is, the more he/she is physically able to do the things that bring joy and fun to life – everything from feeling strong, confident and energetic through your normal work day, running around with your friends or kids, being physically active and playing sports, and traveling to remote corners of the earth. Being physically fit is inspiring, feels good, enriches your life, and adds both years to your life, and life to your years. People that are fit seem to have a clearer, more optimistic view of life. For us, the bottom line is this: Fitness allows you to live your best, and Ballston CrossFit will help you achieve your highest levels of fitness.

Coach Javier has made incredible improvements to his fitness this past year. We are excited to recognize his pursuit of excellence as our newest success story! ⬇️
Q: How did you find out about Ballston CrossFit (BCF) and what convinced you to join the gym?
I found BCF by accident. During my break at work, I happened to walk down 11th St. towards the pond and saw the sign “BALLSTON CROSSFIT”. (At that time, I was in search of a new gym) As I popped in there, was someone hitting multiple Ring Muscle-Ups. I was sold and said sign me up!
Q: What stopped you from joining the gym sooner?
I was new to Arlington and was a new hire during a Covid year. I used to work and live in DC so all I knew was that area.
Q: When did you start at BCF and what were your goals you set when you joined the gym?
I started BCF in January of 2023. My goals were to relearn the foundation and perfect the basics. I had done some Olympic lifting during the Covid years but not consistently.
Q: What has helped you achieve success at BCF?
The community! I realized that everyone at the gym comes from different environments. The one common quality I experienced was that all members were willing to put in the effort to make themselves better every day. Three years in, the effort is still there and it fuels my success at BCF.
Q: What advice can you give to others who are new to CrossFit?
“Days don’t define you…leave yesterday in the past, make today a good one and be better tomorrow.”
Q: Besides working out, what other lifestyle changes did you make outside of the gym to achieve your goals?
I completely changed my entire lifestyle from nutrition, sleep, putting myself as #1 priority, reading more and learning the power of saying no.

Cheers to Matt and Cassy Beamer! ❤️✨
14 years in business and we now have 15 happily married couples organically created through friendship and later romance at the gym!
We asked Matt to give us details of how the Beamers came to be!
“Our story started at Ballston CrossFit’s Christmas party at Bronson Bierhall in Arlington. My wife had spotted me across the room but, rather than introducing herself directly, recruited another gym member to come over and start a conversation. Somehow that plan worked. What followed was a good part of the evening spent debating one of life’s most important questions: John Mayer or Taylor Swift. Neither of us changed the other’s mind, but we clearly enjoyed the conversation enough to keep it going long after the party ended.
Over the next several years, what began as a chance meeting at a Ballston CrossFit event grew into a friendship, then a relationship, and eventually a marriage. Looking back, it’s amazing to think that a holiday party, a little matchmaking from a fellow member, and a spirited music debate led us to finding our person. We’ll always be grateful to the Ballston CrossFit community for bringing us together and giving us a story that started in a gym family and turned into a lifetime together.”

SWOO! We have loved having you as a member of BCF for many years!! Congrats on hitting this 10-year milestone!!
- How many days a week do you workout (and typically what time slot)?
➡️ Typically 3 days a week, but recently I’ve been more focused on my running goals so have been doing 1-2 days a week of strength work to compliment my training plan.
- What is your favorite thing about BCF?
➡️ BCF is open almost every day and has all the equipment I need to do my workouts.
- What is your favorite movement/workout? Least favorite?
➡️ Favorite – Back Squats and Box Jumps.
Least favorite – Assault Bike and Snatches.
- What is your favorite post WOD meal?
➡️ Don’t have one.
- What accomplishment are you most proud of (inside or outside the box)?
➡️ 10 years doing CrossFit! Time flies and I learned so much about my weaknesse and my strengths these past 10 years. Did I ever imagine being able to do Bar Muscle-Ups and Rope Climbs when I first started? Nope. But here I am able to do those movements and more. My most recent accomplishment was taking on a new challenge a couple years ago, training and running long-distance races and seeing how much I’ve improved.
- What is one goal you would like to accomplish in the next year?
➡️ I’m running half-marathons in Lisbon and Copenhagen next year and hope to PR in at least one of them.
- What advice can you provide to people new to the box?
➡️ Don’t be intimidated when you see others that may be more fit and can lift heavier or faster during WODs. Focus on yourself. Keep showing up — you will walk away stronger and more confident than when you walked in.

Our latest success story! Read below to learn more about Chiara’s CrossFit journey at BCF! ⬇️
Q: How did you find out about Ballston CrossFit (BCF) and what convinced you to join the gym?
I originally found Ballston CrossFit online, and it ended up being the closest CrossFit gym to me. I did CrossFit growing up and throughout high school, so I’d been wanting to get back into it.
Q: What stopped you from joining the gym sooner?
I felt like I needed to be in shape to join (you don’t), and was hesitant to get back into group classes post finishing college athletics. Q: When did you start at BCF and what were your goals you set when you joined the gym?
I started at BCF in February of this year. My main goal was simply to mix things up! I love working out and staying active, but I’m definitely guilty of doing the same routines over and over again. Being able to show up and have varied, structured workouts already planned has been huge for me. Q: What has helped you achieve success at BCF?
Definitely the coaches and members. They consistently push me to try things I probably wouldn’t have attempted on my own, and I’ve genuinely surprised myself because of it. Q: What advice can you give to others who are new to CrossFit?
Keeping a consistent routine and schedule as much as possible. Going on the same days each week keeps you accountable and stops you from only choosing the workouts you like.
Q: Besides working out, what other lifestyle changes did you make outside of the gym to achieve your goals?
I just make sure I get some kind of movement or self‑care in every day. Life can get super busy with work and everything else, so taking little breaks has become really important for me. Even if it’s a quick walk, a gym session, or planning a fun healthy meal, those small things add up and help me stay on track.
Q: What is the biggest benefit you have noticed since starting CrossFit (both in or out of the gym)?
Definitely feeling stronger overall. I notice it in my workouts, but also in everyday things outside the gym.
