👏🏼Congrats to BCF Owner Tucker on being invited to be a keynote speaker at the first regional CrossFit Affiliate Owner summit for District 14 (Mid-Atlantic Region). It was an excellent learning opportunity for all Affiliate Owners as Austin Malleolo and Eric O'Connor from CFHQ shared the direction of HQ. As a 10 year affiliate owner, Tucker was asked to share insights on staff development and operational best practices with the group. Thanks to Danielle Williams (regional rep and owner of Mount Vernon CF) for organizing an excellent event!

Continuing to make my physical, emotional and social health a priority through the pandemic and while being a new mom.

A little bit about Hannah Clough:

- How many days a week do you workout (and typically what time slot)?

Usually around 4-5 days per week. I go to a bunch of different class times - whatever works with my crazy nurse schedule that week. But most often, you'll find me at 4:30PM with all my besties.

- What is your favorite thing about BCF?

I love the community and support BCF offers to its members. I have met so many amazing people and made so many friends throughout my time at BCF. There's nothing better than trying to finish a workout and having your friends and the coaches cheer you on.

- What is your favorite movement/workout? Least favorite?

I love cleans and snatches. My least favorite: bench presses and strict presses.

- What accomplishment are you most proud of (inside or outside the box)?

The past few years have been crazy, but I am most proud of being an ICU nurse amid the pandemic and graduating from graduate school, all the while staying committed to going to the gym as much as possible and making that a priority. BCF makes it easy for members to achieve and maintain their goals.

- What is one goal you would like to accomplish in the next year?

I want my ring muscle up!

- What advice can you provide to people new to the box?

Don't give up. I remember starting as a new member, and being incredibly nervous and intimidated. It's hard to learn all of the new movements, meet new people, and get to know the coaches all at once. But one day, you'll go to the gym and realize how much progress you have made since the beginning. Once you reach your first crossfit goal, you'll keep coming back for more.

🤰🏻🏋🏻‍♀️CrossFit is for everyone! Yes, you still do CrossFit when you are pregnant! Shoutout to our pregnant members Naomi (due this week) and Amanda as they continue their fitness journey throughout their pregnancy. 

Their training has been adjusted (less intensity and modified movements) but they are both so happy with how great they feel after another workout at BCF! All the movements in CrossFit can be modified to adjust to changes in the body’s center of gravity during this time. It’s recommended that if you were active before you should stay active during your pregnancy. 

Our coaches are very well equipped to help our members customize workouts around any limitations (or life changes) a member is facing. We help you modify workouts so that you keep working towards your fitness goals!

Ballston CrossFit is seeking a full time General Manager or Assistant Manager (depending on experience level) to join our great team. Part time coach openings are available as well! This is an incredible opportunity to obtain a leadership role with an amazing CrossFit community of 400+ members! Link to more detailed position descriptions in bio.

Position Description:

The candidate should demonstrate excellent CrossFit coaching, leadership and managerial skills to effectively lead all operational aspects of the CF gym (with support and strategic guidance from the Head Coach and Owner). The Manager/Coach will coach athletes of all levels, from beginners to advanced athletes/competitors. The manager/coach should easily connect with a wide variety of people and are effective in helping them reach their full potential. They are expected to be experts at teaching CrossFit movements and should be involved with (and well respected) in the CrossFit community.

Minimum Qualifications:
3+ years of functional training as an athlete
1+ year full-time CrossFit coach or 2+ years part-time CrossFit coach
CrossFit L1, additional certifications desired (L2/Coaches Prep, weightlifting, USAW, gymnastics, mobility, etc.)
Outgoing, warm personality with a focus on professionalism

- What has been the best change at Ballston CrossFit over the last 10 years?

The lifting platform! That area of the gym was not part of the original BCF and there was a wall roughly where the edge of the platform is. There were a number of WOD "warm-ups" that involved hauling lumber and mats into the gym. I also think the programming continues to evolve and improve. Lastly, the addition of assault bikes and ski ergs. 

- Who has been your favorite coach we've ever had at BCF?

This is so difficult because so many coaches have had big impacts. There have been only 1 or 2 that I didn't love. Probably Jake, who was an original coach and the first one to program at BCF. I only picked him because he had a huge impact on me during my first few months of CrossFit. All of the coaches have changed me for the better.

- What is your biggest gym highlight over the past 10 years?

 Shortly after I started, Rich Froning came to BCF for a fundraiser and I had no idea who he was, so I skipped it. Now, I can't believe I missed the chance to work out with Rich Froning. Plus, I have to add my first time doing Murph with a weighted vest. 

- What was your main motivation to keep coming to BCF?

I'm not a naturally fit person, so I really like showing up and having someone tell me what to do. Based on things going on with my job and family, I can't always focus on CrossFit. There have been times where I can spend extra time in the gym on skills and mobility; and other times that I can just barely fit in the WOD.  I love that I can commit a little or a lot and both options are there, but I stay in shape. Plus, I'm 52 and I appreciate the younger folks pushing me.
