Happy birthday to former Rangers MVP Juan Gonzales!
He is one of the most legendary sluggers in the history of the Texas Rangers, famous for his immense power and run-producing dominance during the 1990s. Nicknamed "Juan Gone," he spent the vast majority of his 16-year Major League Baseball career in Texas (1989–1999, 2002–2003), where he cemented himself as a franchise icon and a two-time American League Most Valuable Player.
González's 1998 MVP season remains one of the most explosive offensive displays in baseball history. He drove in 157 RBIs, setting a Rangers single-season record, and flirted with the all-time single-season RBI records by racking up an astonishing 101 RBIs before the All-Star break.
Over his 16 seasons in the big leagues, González was a feared middle-of-the-order threat. He remains the all-time home run leader among Puerto Rican-born players.
