Inside Edge is Excited to introduce John Fay as the new Director of Strength and Conditioning.

I received some devastating news yesterday. Christian Hernandez, one of my old athletes lost his fight against Osteosarcoma. He was only 17. I met him back in 2019 and from our first meeting I could tell what a kind, smart and hardworking kid he was. When we first started together we had a lot to work on, he just had a rapid growth spurt, was 6’2’’ and was learning how to lift for the first time. It wasn’t easy, I think of where we started and where we got to before the pandemic hit and smile at all the progress he made and confidence he gained. Once we opened back up from COVID closures Christian started coming back in and he brought his younger brother with him. I loved seeing Christian be a big brother, leading by example, encouraging his brother and guiding him as we introduced him to strength training, it gave me even more appreciation for the phenomenal person he was. In the spring of 2021 he sent me an email, in it he told me about his recently discovered cancer diagnosis, it crushed me. The thing I remember most about his diagnosis and those first couple months after was his optimism, his determination and just overall positive outlook on life. We kept in touch through emails and he always stayed positive, we would talk football (he was a big patriots and Tom Brady fan), how and what his brother was up to, how things were going with me, my family and the gym, and would always provide updates on his road to recovery. His path this past year was a roller coaster, finishing chemo to then discovering new tumors in different areas, losing his vision and just being weak from everything he was going through. I can’t imagine what he and his family have been through these past couple years. Christian went into John’s Hopkins Pediatric care unit on March 10th and never made it back home. He fought hard, he fought as long as he could and he left us this past Monday (April 10th). The family has endured a lot of emotional and financial stress through this whole ordeal and if any of you could help their family as they make arraignments for his celebration of life it would be beyond appreciated. https://gofund.me/0613e62c R.I.P. Wanted to give a special shout out to our girl Bridgit as she heads off to play College Hockey at Arcadia University! She is another one of our long term success stories who has really been through it all and worked herself in position to follow her dreams. My favorite memory of Bridgit is her training in the summer with 3 college hockey boys and 1 college men’s Lax player. We had a pre planned basically leave it all out there speed session that we were about to do and Bridgit last second decided she wanted to hop in. She did awesome, she pushed those boys every rep, never missed a line and was always ready to go again. She has a tremendous work ethic and will do great things. Good luck B! Have a great year!!

Wanted to give a special congratulations and wish good luck to one of my longest tenured athletes. I started working with Katie my first year at inside edge and right from the start she had the dream of going and skating at Miami. She has worked through ups and downs, achieved many great things during her skating career and always had the drive and determination to work hard and get better. She was one of the last people in the gym before we shut down for COVID and was in the first group when we opened back up. Congratulations all that hard work definitely paid off! Now go make us proud!!!

Just wanted to take a second and wish 3 of my former athletes good luck as they compete in Tokyo at the Olympics! . So proud of you all! Can’t wait to watch you compete!!!
