You’re off.
Or at least… you’re supposed to be.
Different clothes.
Different place.
Same expectations.
“Hope you’re enjoying the holidays! Quick question when you’re free…”
It’s not labeled as work.
It’s not urgent.
But somehow, it still pulls you right back in.
Time off shouldn’t require constant availability.

Meanwhile at Work… Episode 6
Taking time off is supposed to feel relieving.
But first?
You have to get everything done.
The extra meetings.
The handoffs.
The work you rush through so nothing falls apart while you’re gone.
By the time you’re “allowed” to step away, you’re already exhausted.
Time off shouldn’t feel like another performance requirement.
And rest shouldn’t have to be earned through overwork.
Yet this is the quiet reality for so many women.

“Just practice self-care.”
They say it while piling on more deadlines.
More meetings.
More responsibility.
Self-care didn’t cause burnout.
And it can’t fix systemic overwork.
Bubble baths don’t solve unrealistic expectations.
Meditation doesn’t reduce workload.
Wellness emails don’t replace capacity, support, or staffing.
Self-care matters.
But when it becomes the solution rather than support, it becomes another burden women are expected to manage.
Burnout isn’t a personal failure.
It’s often a structural one.

“I worked nights, weekends, and traveled constantly.
That’s just leadership.”
And sometimes…the pressure isn’t coming from men.
It’s coming from women who were taught that exhaustion = success.
They made it through a system that demanded everything.
And now that standard quietly becomes the expectation.
“If I did it, you should too.”
But leadership shouldn’t require burning yourself down to prove you belong.
You’re not weak for questioning it.
You’re not lazy for wanting something sustainable.
You’re just seeing the system clearly.

Meanwhile at Work… Episode 3
A VP with the highest retention rate in the company just got this feedback:
“You need to be more decisive and direct with your team.”
Let that sink in.
Her team stays.
They perform.
They deliver results.
• Consensus-building gets framed as being “too soft.”estions, builds buy-in, creates trust, and she’s told her leadership style is the problem.
This is what’s really happening:
• Collaboration gets labeled as indecision
• Listening gets mistaken for lack of confidence
• Consensus-building gets framed as being “too soft”
Meanwhile, the so-called “decisive” leaders?
Higher turnover. Lower trust. More burnout.
But they look like leaders in meetings.
Here’s the truth most women learn the hard way:
Your leadership style isn’t broken.
The system measuring it is.

Emma just found out that Grant, younger, less experienced, make more money that she does.
And when she shared her shock?
Matt shrugged and said:
"You should have negotiated better."
If only it worked like that.
Because here's the truth women already know:
-They often start with lower initial offers.
-They face more pushback when negotiating.
-They get judged differently for asking.
-They're promoted more slowly even when they outperform.
So when someone says "just negotiate," it ignores everything women have already done...and everything the system still isn't built to fix.
Emma has a decade more experience.
Stronger results.
Better performance.
And still? She's underpaid.
