This movement right here...let’s talk about it.
You walk up to the box. What’s the first thing you look at? The edge of that box. I do it. Everyone does. The tightness of your chest sets in and the nervousness of making that jump whatever the measurement is starts to sink in. You think this is stupid what if I can’t do it, what if I crack my shin open, or what if I attempt and choke at the last minute? I still do it and it’s been four years. Most of us CrossFit folks start off with stacks of plates to build the mental game. Some of us just jump right right on and don’t give the edge of that box a second thought. I want you to take a step back and think about every challenge you’ve ever been put up against as a box jump...did you look at the edge of a challenge and say can’t do it because of whatever reason or did you pony up and look towards your goal no matter what the stakes are? We all have our own pace in life and it’s on us to lean forward to take a chance on ourselves at our own pace. Next time you find yourself up against a challenge don’t look at the edge of it, focus on the work towards your goal on your terms. Something you may not know about me is that although I’m always working on improving, and it may appear like I’m always working out, the truth is that I am making up for lost time. On a note and before we post the next #OGGOnTheRoad workout, here’s a little bit about resistance bands. Resistance bands are widely used for stretching and accessory work. We decided to include the resistance band in our workout because it is an equipment that you can easily have with you. However, there might be some confusion on how to pick your band. First things first: for your first band you want a band that is versatile. Then, you must know that each color corresponds to a different thickness, hence different resistance. We recommend for you always to have a red band with you (30 lbs) and that is the one we will be using. You can easily find them online (swipe left): Amazon, Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods are a few websites where you can find them. Get ready for our next On The Road workout, to be posted this Sunday.

We have V-E-R-Y special Athlete Assessment Workshop planned for July 27th from 8am to 6pm with Lucy Hendricks.

Assessment of athletes, especially those with shoulder or hip mobility issues, often requires looking upstream or downstream from the problem joint to determine what the issues actually are. In most cases, you’ll find the rib cage, as it sits atop the pelvis, to be an issue. Learning to assess and address breathing mechanics is a huge game changer for getting clients to perform better under heavy load and move pain free.

Lucy specializes in assessment and introduction of breathing techniques that aid in proper movement and loading of athletes and clients of all ages and experience levels.

The seminar covers fundamental kettlebell skills (swings and Turkish-get-ups), deadlifts, and power push-ups in detail and provides three months of protocols to help attendees build “cardio” while developing power. The course also reviews a sample peaking cycle before an endurance event and discusses when and how peaking should be used. This methodology also helps those pressed for time to make the most efficient use of whatever training time they have available.
