We focus on helping people as a whole through exercise, discipline, and a desire to be better. What is KAIZEN? The Japanese word “kaizen” is derived from “kai,” meaning simply “the action to correct or change for the better,” and “zen,” meaning “good” or “benefit.” Kaizen refers to any continuous effort, no matter the size of the effort, on a daily basis to make an improvement in the system as a whole.

MMA is often a misunderstood art. More than breaking blocks of wood and mastering the high kicks of self defense, it’s about discipline. And one cannot understand discipline without becoming somewhat adept at self-discipline. If we want our children to grow up embracing the virtues of self-control, respect, and confidence in themselves, then it is we as parents who have to demonstrate those same qualities to our children, and do so from about the age that they begin to walk.
Times have changed. Kids spend hours on YouTube and Minecraft, forgetting how to entertain themselves without technology. They no longer make friends at the playground, instead “friending” strangers who play the same games they do. Kids lack the values and respect for authority older generations prized. They rely on adults to give them what they want, refusing to put in the effort to acquire it themselves. If kids are forced to try, they allow themselves to quit at the first sign of difficulty. These kids are being set up for failure, never knowing the satisfaction of hard work and succeeding on their own merit. Our kids learn to quit teams and music lessons, art classes and after school programs. Sometimes it is necessary, but sometimes they are bored or don’t like the coach or would just rather play video games at home. Deciding when to let your kids quit something, be it Gymboree, Little League or SAT prep, is a question that never goes away.
“The first time I let them walk away from something just because at that moment it didn’t suit them was the last time I had any credibility about endurance or resilience because the refrain henceforth would have been, “But you let me quit….”
We all have had experiences where we have given up early on something we wish we did not. We regret those experiences so let’s change that for our kids. We can let them build on that discipline to never give up and always persevere because our kids are not quitters. As parents, we have to help our kids become the successful, productive, happy members of society we know they can be. We need to teach our kids how to fail and get back up. How to rely on themselves because they know they can. Teaching our kids how to succeed is as important as learning to read and write. We want our kids to be the best they can be! They want to be successful, they want to do MMA, you want them to be successful, you want them to do MMA. We do not want our kids to ever give up.
Kaizen wants to help raise your kids up in any way we can. If there is anything we can change or add to improve your kids’ experience, please let us know. Email any comments or concerns to [email protected].
Let’s work together for a better future for your kids!
