the last couple of months were a roller coaster of 🎢 emotions, uncertainties... and business decisions. what a scary time to be a small business owner.

what we found out is that during times of crisis, people tend to gravitate towards those that give off a certain type of energy. people want a place where they feel like they belong and feel like part of the family. We are so glad that we can offer that type of atmosphere not only to our clients but to our staff as well.

good people will find good people so it should be no surprise that we are adding massage therapist extraordinaire, Donnie Shim , to the Elite Wellness staff.

we are extremely excited to welcome Dr. David Dannels to our staff. He has been a chiropractor for 20 years and has quite the impressive resume. After leaving the Marine Corps, he decided to go back to school to become a chiropractor. He traveled around the world working with professional @cavalia & @cirquedusoleil gymnasts and acrobats 🤸‍♀️ He also spent years working with marathon runners and @ironmantri athletes. Dr. Dannels is an ultramarathon runner & endurance athlete 🏃🏼 he is now seeing patients at our facility so we hope you say hi when you see him 👋🏼

Progress photo update! 😁
On the left, I weighed 210 lbs. On the right, I weighed 193 lbs. I’m very pleased with my results so far! Since the last photo I took on 5/5/20 I weighed roughly 195 lbs. Now I weigh 193 lbs., which is only a 2 lbs. difference BUT that’s okay! 💪 I’m liking my results so far and I am excited for the next part of my diet!

remember this 💭 1️⃣ if you haven’t done much in the last 2-3 months, do NOT go directly back into the same routine with the same weights and reps. Muscle atrophy begins to happen after 72 hours of inactivity so you can imagine what happens to the body after 2-3 months of inactivity. 2️⃣ we suggest starting with compound movements instead of single joint movements. 3️⃣ if you don’t want to go back to the same gym with the same routine, let us know❗️if we can’t help you, we might know some people who can.

out & about in the community this weekend and we went to show @redsbbqnpizzeria some love. Red (and his awesome volunteers/staff) have been giving away free BBQ meals every Saturday for the last 10 weeks 🍗 🥩

got to enjoy a 2️⃣7️⃣ mile gravel ride yesterday with some of our favorite people. we also added a new person to the group who turned out to be Dr. Mullen from @mullenorthodontics 👋🏼

running a business is one thing but being able to bike up and down hills for 27 miles on loose gravel is an entirely different beast 👹🚵‍♀️

super proud of Anthony 1️⃣ for being vulnerable and asking for help with his nutrition 2️⃣ for trusting us enough to help him 3️⃣ to being extremely disciplined and sticking to his meal & workouts plans (minus the first day where he ate his post workout apple 🍎 at the wrong time and josi went 🦍 💩 on him - okay okay she only lectured him but still) 4️⃣ for allowing us to share his story .

A few months ago I weighed the heaviest I've ever weighed at 210 lbs. I was pretty pissed, I normally had set higher standards for myself but in my last year of college the stress and lack of exercise finally caught up to me as I began to eat without thinking about what's actually going into my body. 🤭
I began full speed ahead with exercises in February, while I gained some strength and lost 3 pounds within that month, I was still disappointed with my results. And once quarantine hit, I was worried I was going to get off track and not be able to continue to lose weight. So, I bravely asked @josi_pinheiro03 from @elite_wellness_ to give me a diet plan that allows me to maintain/gain muscle while I lose body fat and weight. A few weeks ago, we were able to put the plan into action! 🍴
With the diet and exercise plans paired up together, I was able to lose an additional 12 pounds in 2 weeks while also maintaining/gaining muscle. These results are awesome and I'm very excited to continue to progress with my plans as quarantine is coming to a close! Thank you everyone for who was able to help me and be with me during this transformation! 💪

grab yourself a @trxtraining or any suspension straps you can get your hands on and give this exercise a try.

you need to at least be able to hold a regular side plank for 30-60 seconds before attempting this. if you can’t do the hip drop portion, just simply try to hold yourself up in a side plank position for a set amount of time. Your body will constantly try to make micro adjustments to help keep you up. Your body should be in a straight line the entire time and you should feel the flexion & extension of the obliques as you lower your hip to the floor and back up.

your elbow should be directly underneath your shoulder when you are in the 🆙 position.

if you can’t do this exercise, do not panic 🆘 🚨 there are a few things you can do to help build your core strength before giving this a try. Give us a follow and stay tuned for more videos 🎥 if you can do this, tag us and we will post! 🏷

we are already preparing for our athletes to begin returning to play their sports and to return to us for their off-season training 🏀🏐⚽️🏈⚾️🥎🥍🏋🏼‍♀️🤸🏾⛹🏽‍♂️What does this mean ❓potential injuries❗️[ and probably a good amount of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) ❗️we have 2️⃣ plans of attack. .
1️⃣ injury prevention
2️⃣ injury treatment .
high on our list of potential injuries to look out for will be knee related injuries. if kids have been sitting around for two months... what happens when they go from sedentary to active in a short time span? Risk of injury goes 🆙 this is why we don’t just hire any joe shmoe trainer off the street. We have an entire kinesiology trained staff that have made the cut to come work with us and who design workout programs specifically to lower risk of injury while achieving MAXIMUM results. .
the whole idea of training with qualified people is to MINIMIZE your risk of injury- not to get injured and then figure out how to fix it. During the first weeks back we want to avoid any opportunities for possible overuse injuries / overtraining and make sure athletes are doing full body workouts for their first 1-2 weeks back. .
Knowledge 💣🤓 muscles can atrophy in as little as 7️⃣2️⃣ hours after not being used.... the first few sessions back with our trainers might be a little rough but we got ya covered 💪🏽

doctors have been sending some of their patients with multiple sclerosis to us specifically for them to do cryotherapy. As health professionals, we wanted to know everything possible there is to know about MS and how our whole body cryotherapy can help them. Some patients have shown up with no visible outward signs of having MS while other patients clearly showed signs such as rapid, involuntary eye twitching/blinking, stuttered speech. By NO means is cryotherapy a cure for MS - it is simply a way to possibly help alleviate some of the symptoms- and as always, results vary from person to person.
MS is a disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves.
In MS, resulting nerve damage disrupts communication between the brain and the body.
Multiple sclerosis causes many different symptoms, including vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination. The symptoms, severity, and duration can vary from person to person. Some people may be symptom free most of their lives, while others can have severe chronic symptoms that never go away.
There is strong evidence that multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized not only by immune mediated inflammatory reactions but also by neurodegenerative processes. ... Whole-body cryotherapy (WBCT) treatment may improve both survival and neurological outcome in MS patients.
Whole-Body Cryotherapy (WBC) has 4️⃣ properties that may make it an effective technique for the management of MS and its symptoms 🧠 🥶:

1️⃣WBC is known to fight oxidative stress. In a 2013 article in the journal Clinical and Developmental Immunology, researchers explained, “The inflammatory environment in demyelinating lesions leads to the generation of oxygen- and nitrogen-free radicals as well as proinflammatory cytokines which contribute to the development and progression of the disease. Inflammation can lead to oxidative stress and vice versa.”

2️⃣WBC is known to mobilize the immune system. A 2010 paper in the European Journal of Applied Physiology found that repeated sessions of WBC have a “mobilization effect” on the immune system in healthy people.

3️⃣WBC is known to reduce inflammation. A 2010 paper in Physical Therapy Reviews reviewed cryotherapy research in animal models and found “Cryotherapy can have an influence on key inflammatory events at a cellular and physiological level after an acute soft tissue injury.”

4️⃣WBC feels good. You don’t need research to demonstrate that stepping out of the cryo chamber buoys your spirit and your body. This is the result of a flood of endorphins throughout your body. It’s like a runner’s high, only without the running. It’s an effective way to relieve pain and it’s a mood enhancer.
