War is the ultimate big government project.

Today marks 14 years since Barack Obama killed an American teenager with a drone strike. Abdulrahman al-Awlaki was born in Denver. He was never charged with a crime. He was never even suspected of one.

On October 14, 2011, while eating at an outdoor restaurant in Yemen, Obama’s drones blew him apart. His family identified him by a fragment of skull with his curly hair still attached.

At first, the administration gave no explanation. Later, former Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said, “He should have had a more responsible father,” referring to Anwar al-Awlaki — whom Obama had also assassinated without charge or trial just weeks earlier.

Something to remember as we question where any president — Trump included — believes they get the power to kill people around the world without charge or trial.
