Asheville Ballet is North Carolina’s oldest non-profit ballet company. Incorporated in 1963, the company has created and presented classical and contemporary work in Asheville every year since. In an average season, formal and educational outreach programming affects a culturally diverse audience of approximately 23,000 people. We produce residencies and commission work by historical choreographers. We collaborate with premiere musicians, visual artists, and poets, regionally and internationally. We train dancers and support our professional dancers. A short list: Alvin Ailey, Kirov, Pennsylvania Ballet, Fort Worth Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Colorado Ballet, Hartford Ballet, Boston Ballet, Geneva Ballet, National Ballet of Cuba, Rockettes, Broadway musicals, Hollywood films, titles all the way up to Miss and Mrs. America, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Juilliard, Boston Ballet, Jose Limon, Paul Taylor, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Robert Joffrey, Shen Wei, and The Dance Conservatory at Purchase. We work with local non-profits to locate and encourage new dancers and dance-appreciators. Our Tix for Tots program introduces young people to the wonders of dance. No dance task in our community is too large or too small for us!
