The Birth of “Bunk” 🗣️🎩
It’s Wacky Wednesday, and we are diving into some bizarre local history! Did you know the words “bunk” and “debunk” actually originated right here in Buncombe County? Back in 1820, our local congressman gave such a long, irrelevant speech that frustrated colleagues asked him to sit down. He refused, claiming he was just “talking to Buncombe.” Over time, the phrase morphed into “bunkum,” meaning total nonsense.

👻 Freaky Fun Fact Friday!
Meet the Omni Grove Park Inn’s most famous resident.
Since the 1920s, guests and staff have reported sightings of “The Pink Lady,” a gentle spirit in a pink gown who allegedly fell from a fifth-floor balcony. 🌸
She is known for her harmless pranks, like turning lights on and off, or bringing a sudden chill to Room 545.
Would you brave a night on her favorite floor? 🏨✨

Tour Guide Tuesday: Josh
Our tour guides have many skills, Josh can balance a bike on his face, can you? (Kids, don’t try this at home, Josh is a professional)
Here’s what moves Josh:
“Hello, I’m Josh, and I love helping people experience Asheville from the seat of a bike. For me, “moving people” means more than just getting from one place to another — it’s about helping guests slow down, laugh, explore, and connect with the city in a more personal way.
I enjoy showing people the hidden corners, beautiful views, neighborhoods, and little moments that make this place special. Whether someone is visiting for the first time or has lived here for years, I want them to leave feeling lighter, more connected, and with a few good stories to tell. Riding bikes has a way of turning strangers into friends and an ordinary day into an adventure, and I’m excited to share that experience with others.”

🚲 ✨ SCENIC SUNDAY: Shadows & Sunshine ☀️
There is something purely magical about the mood on a ride through Asheville when the sun hits just right.
One of our riders captured this incredible shot this past week, and we can’t get enough of it! The sharp pavement shadows, the unexpected rainbow lens flare, and the feeling of rolling through the streets together perfectly captures what our tours are all about. It’s not just a ride; it’s an entire vibe. 🌈🚲
When the sunshine cuts through the mountain air, there’s truly no better place to be than exploring on two wheels.

🚲 SPOTLIGHT SATURDAY: Big Groups, Great Rides, and Amazing Connections! ✨
Shoutout to the incredible team from Faegre Drinker! This insurance law firm was in town for a conference at the Omni Grove Park Inn, and they were truly one of the best large groups we have ever ridden with. They stuck together, stayed engaged with Zack and myself, and brought the best energy the whole way through!
We cruised through Downtown and the River Arts District before capping off the ride with a delicious lunch buffet at Luella’s BBQ. 🍗🔥
The best part of our tours? The personal connections.
Milwaukee Roots: Two riders, Doug and Sarah, are from right near my hometown in Milwaukee, WI! They loved the ride so much they took our tour two days in a row. Sarah even mentioned she learned a trick on our tour to help her ride her e-bike better back home. 🚲💪
The Ultimate Compliment: Kate, who organized the trip, sets up e-bike rides in every city they visit for conferences. She told us ours was one of the best because of the stories we tell and the personal connections we make!
Community Kindness: Kate and another rider even went above and beyond to help me brainstorm a plan for an issue I’ve been navigating in the aftermath of Helene. They were incredibly kind, thoughtful, and offered to let me reach out if I hit a wall (with the standard lawyer disclaimer that they aren’t officially representing me, of course! 😉).
It was a beautiful day that perfectly reminded me why I love these team-building rides so much. You start as a tour group and leave as friends.

🎸 FUN FACT FRIDAY: A Wild Elvis Connection! 🤯
We love cruising past the Harrah’s Cherokee Center on our Downtown E-Bike Tour. It always reminds us of July 1975, when Elvis played three sold-out nights in Asheville.
During the show, Elvis handed his black Gibson guitar (pictured here!) to a fan in the front row. That lucky fan later used it for a career as an Elvis impersonator!
But here is the crazy twist:
I’m Torin, the owner, and I’ve been telling this story on tours for years. I just found out Elvis’s dad originally bought him that guitar, and they had it refinished at the famous Gruhn Guitars in Nashville.
Well, Gruhn is my wife’s maiden name! We did some digging and found out her dad and the legendary shop owner are actually distant cousins! 🤯🎸
Asheville is full of wild history. Come uncover it with us!
