Why Mid-Summer Tree Inspections Matter - New Urban Forestry 07/21/2026

Don't let a full, green canopy fool you. Mid-summer is one of the best times to inspect your trees.

Heat, drought, pests, disease, and summer storms can expose hidden issues that aren't always visible during other seasons. Catching problems early can help prevent costly damage and keep your trees healthy for years to come.
Our ISA Certified Arborists can identify potential hazards, assess tree health, and recommend proactive care before small issues become major problems.

Storm season is here, and now is the perfect time to prepare your property before severe weather strikes.

Here are five simple ways to help protect your trees and your property:

⛈️ Inspect trees for dead or weak branches: Dead, cracked, or hanging limbs are more likely to fail during high winds.
🌳 Schedule preventive pruning. Removing weak or overextended branches can improve a tree's ability to withstand severe weather.
🚗 Move vehicles and outdoor items: Avoid parking beneath large trees and secure patio furniture, grills, and other loose objects.
⚡ Be aware of trees near power lines: Never attempt to prune branches near power lines yourself. Contact your utility company or a Certified Arborist if you have concerns.
📸 Document your property: Take photos of your trees and landscape before a storm. Having documentation can be helpful if you need to file an insurance claim after severe weather.

A little preparation today can make a big difference tomorrow. If you have concerns about the health or stability of your trees, contact New Urban Forestry today to help identify and mitigate potential hazards before the next storm.

Tree Safety Tip: When Is a Leaning Tree a Safety Concern?

It's normal for homeowners to notice a tree that seems to be leaning and wonder if it's dangerous. The good news is that not every leaning tree is a safety hazard, but some are warning signs that shouldn't be ignored.

- A Leaning Tree Isn't Always an Emergency: Some trees naturally grow at an angle and have done so for many years without issue. If the lean has remained unchanged and the tree appears healthy, it may not pose an immediate risk. However, a tree that has recently started leaning or appears to be leaning more than before deserves closer attention.

Warning Signs to Watch For: Keep an eye out for these indicators that a leaning tree may be unsafe:
- Vertical cracks in the trunk or large branches
- Exposed or lifting roots on one side of the tree
- Soil heaving or mounding around the base
- Dead or hanging limbs
- Large cavities or signs of decay
- A noticeable increase in the tree's lean, especially after a storm
These symptoms can indicate structural weakness and increase the risk of failure.

- After a Storm, Take Another Look: High winds and heavy rain can weaken root systems or cause unseen damage. Even if a tree didn't fall during the storm, changes in its position or condition may signal that it needs a professional evaluation.

- Don't Wait Until It's an Emergency: A proactive inspection can identify potential hazards before they become costly or dangerous. Addressing concerns early may allow for corrective pruning or other treatments that help preserve the tree while reducing risk.

Need a second opinion? Our team is here to evaluate your trees, explain their condition, and recommend the safest course of action, whether that's routine maintenance or more immediate care. Contact us today!
