According to Sherrone Moore on his Big Noon conversation with Joel Klatt, Jim Harbaugh communicated to Moore that he would work into his contract that Moore will be the next coach of Michigan on Harbaugh’s departure.
This past year Moore coached the team for 3 games, with assurances that it would be his future job from his boss.
Maybe that’s why he had a lot of confidence on a handful of 4th down calls in big moments.

Ohio State and Michigan have had some unbelievable skills position players over the years, but the team that wins the line of scrimmage wins the game every year.
For two decades Michigan couldn’t handle Ohio State’s O-line. Aiden Hutchinson, David Ojabo changed that in 2021 and that hasn’t changed. Meanwhile Michigan has bodied Ohio State’s O-line in the second half 3 times in row.
Ohio State has had the best receiving core in the country and that hasn’t been enough to beat Michigan for the last 3 years. Only one way to get back in the win column.

Lincoln Riley’s team competed for the College Football Playoff in his first year at USC. In year 2 they got off to a 6-0 start and severely lost their footing once the schedule cranked up. They finished the regular season 7-5 with losses to Notre Dame, Utah, Washington and Oregon.
Well they don’t get 6 cupcakes to start the year this time. They host LSU in week 1, they go to Michigan in week 3, they’ll go to Washington and they host Notre Dame to finish the year.
Absolutely nowhere to hide for Lincoln Riley in year 3.

James Franklin has been at Penn State for over a decade. He’s 88-39. That’s a .692 winning percentage.
That’s about what Penn State figured they were getting when they hired Franklin. He stabilized the program. Is it too stable?
Penn State hasn’t made it to a Big 10 championship since 2016.
Truth be told their schedule is manageable if they handle their business. They don’t face Michigan, but they will face Ohio State and Washington at home and USC, at USC.
There’s a world where Penn State could get to the Big 10 championship if they pull off a big win and win the games they’re supposed to. Long time coming for the Franklin regime.

I don’t get why I’m supposed to be clutching my pearls.
This is the same sport that hosted the Cheez-It bowl and the Avacados From Mexico bowl last year.

Mario Cristobal’s record at Oregon was 35-13. Mario Cristobal’s record at Miami is 12-13.
Cristobal’s left Oregon to try to restore Miami to its former glory but that certainly hasn’t been how the first two years have gone. Miami lost every tough matchup they had, plus losses to Georgia Tech and NC State last year.
Miami’s schedule actually gets a lot easier this year. They face Florida in week 1, Louisville in week 7 and Florida State in week 8 but every game outside of that looks very manageable if Miami handles its business.
If Miami doesn’t win 9 games in year 3 with Mario Cristobal the narrative will be out that he’s just another coach who couldn’t stabilize the formerly great program.

Oregon and Ohio State are eying each other down as the two Big 10 betting favorites going into 2024.
There’s actually a pretty rich history with these two. They faced each other in the 2014 CFP Championship where Ohio State took its only title of the last 20 years. Oregon also walked into the Shoe in 2021 and took down the third ranked Buckeyes on the road.
Oregon hasn’t been back to the CFP since their loss to Ohio State in January 2015. Well October 12th, the Buckeyes will go to Eugene.

"There are three big issues looming that will determine how this goes: The Title IX strategy for the implementation of revenue distribution, enforcement issues surrounding residual NIL and how roster caps work." - ESPN article on NCAA pay for play ruling.
The NCAA needs to figure out:
1. How will they distribute money relative to Title IX? Football makes up 85% of the revenue for most athletic programs. Does that mean that football will get 85% of the salary space for the teams, or will they have to divide it evenly between men’s and women’s sports?
2. What is allowed and not allowed regarding NIL? (that was already on the agenda)
3. If a power 5 team has a salary cap, how are they supposed to divide it and promise it to players? How will scholarships work relative to the salary cap? How many scholarships? Who will get them, what will they be used for?
The NCAA has a year and change to answer these questions. As always, they are being reactive instead of proactive about it.

For the last 4 or 5 years Michigan has been known to get started with a pretty easy stretch. Last year they didn’t play a ranked team until mid-November (hard to criticize a 15-0 team though).
Well that’s not the case anymore. The Sherrone Morre era gets tested quickly. Texas in week 2, USC in week 4, Washington in week 6. Some classic Rose Bowl matchups getting played out in the Big 10 schedule this year.

Now that Saban and Harbaugh are out of college football is it pretty undisputed that Kirby Smart is the best coach in the game?
He’s certainly as decorated as anyone:
- 2 National Championships
- 2 SEC titles
- 3x SEC coach of the year
- 10 New Years 6 Bowl appearances
- 8 New Years 6 Bowl wins
- .855 winning percentage
