There’s nothing like being in a room full of future educators ready to change the world. 💡 Grateful for the opportunity to work with Clark Atlanta University and huge shoutout to for her impact in literacy and leadership. One of my favorite PDs to date!

Summertime vibes!
Thanks to all the educators who stepped into my reading classroom this summer and engaged with our lessons on vocab and morphology.
I hope you each have a phenomenal year as you head back into your classrooms.
Remember: the English language makes perfect sense when you realize it’s just a bunch of tiny word parts throwing a perfectly organized party.

Get to go to work for the first time with this beaut tomorrow! Just know that when I have to make copies for my students I will now be printing and going to retrieve them one at a time so I can walk past the front desk a few more times a day. 😘

Last week, I presented a PD for the middle school teachers of the school that I actually graduated from 25 years ago.
Walking through the doors again was surreal and incredibly encouraging to interact with dope educators looking to hone their craft.
It was in this building that my love for reading started. They got me with the Goosebumps Series!
I even got to speak to and personally thank one of the teachers who fed my reading appetite during those formative years.
I am thankful that brought me out and for showing me so much love…they even gave me my old middle school yearbooks and a Mont Pleasant Middle School STAFF shirt that I will wear with much pride.
These teachers are making a difference in the kids that need it most. I know because I was one of them. Thankful that I am 🆘 and rep HH for life!

Why on earth would a reading teacher be talking about two disciplines that have nothing to do with his content area??
It's because they have everything to do with his content area.
I read an article a while back and they mentioned that they surveyed many of the state tests given in America and categorized the reading section of each test by topic.
The number one topic that rose above the rest? Ecosystems.
I have never taught about ecosystems, but behold, here it is, the topic that showed up the most on my disciplines' state reading assessments.
The point of all this?
That history and science disciplines have as much importance as the reading classroom.
Embarrassingly, I didn't always believe that. Why? It's simple—knowledge matters. And those two content areas contribute immensely to it.
