9:30 p.m. tonightโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m sitting on the couch with my husband, very excitedly explaining some movement science ๐Ÿ˜„

Heโ€™s kind of chucklingโ€”
not at the drillโ€ฆ but at my enthusiasm.

At the fact that this is what I get excited about.
That this is what I choose to do to relax at night.

And honestlyโ€ฆ it is.

Iโ€™m like, โ€œWaitโ€”watch this.โ€

I show him my toe touch.
Then I do a quick neurological drillโ€”literally just moving my eyes for about 10 seconds.

Try againโ€ฆ
โ€ฆand I can go further.

He just looks at meโ€”kind of shockedโ€”like, โ€œWaitโ€ฆ what?โ€

And Iโ€™m sitting there like,
โ€œYepโ€ฆ isnโ€™t this so cool?โ€

Because a lot of people think improving flexibility means pushing, pushing, pushing.

But there are actually very simple, gentle things you can do
that help your body allow more movement.

And itโ€™s honestly amazing once you know how to do it.

This is something I layer into my classes in really intentional waysโ€”
youโ€™ve probably heard me cue things like moving your head or your eyes during a stretch.

Thatโ€™s not random.

Itโ€™s part of helping your body feel safeโ€”
and even training your visual system.

Because what your eyes are doing is constantly informing your brainโ€ฆ
and that shapes the neurological signals that control your movement.

Change the input โ†’ change the response.

And sometimes that means more flexibility, instantly.

This time last week, I was getting ready for the premiere of Some & Others โœจ

And Iโ€™ve been thinking about it ever since.

What started in 2006โ€”laying on my bedroom floor, pressing play on a Gotan Project CD and letting choreography pour outโ€”
became a contemporary dance work I created between 2006โ€“2008โ€ฆ

one thatโ€™s been performed by ballet and modern dance companies over the past 20 years.

And now, to see it as the centerpiece of a documentaryโ€ฆ

itโ€™s something so much bigger than I ever imagined.

A shared experience.
A piece that continues to mean somethingโ€”deeply, on a heart-changing levelโ€”to people.

Being in Wilmington with the dancers and film team was incredibly special.

Because this kind of work begins by looking inwardโ€”
by being honest about who you are and whatโ€™s true for youโ€ฆ
not being bound by needing to be loved, but knowing you are.

And thenโ€ฆ having the courage to express that outward.

Thatโ€™s what creates connection.

And taking our eyes off ourselvesโ€”our insecuritiesโ€”
thatโ€™s when we can truly live.

Donโ€™t lose your own pleasure in what youโ€™re doing.

Itโ€™s not just about what you giveโ€”
itโ€™s about what you feel, too.

Thatโ€™s what fills you.
And thatโ€™s what reaches people ๐Ÿ’›

I carry this into everything I doโ€”
including how I teach.

Movement isnโ€™t something to push through.
Itโ€™s something you experience.

Most of our days are spent in โ€œleft brainโ€ mode.

Schedules.
Decisions.
Logistics.
Taking care of everyone else.

And if weโ€™re being honestโ€ฆ

It pulls us out of the experience.
