Recovery | During exercise, our bodies produce small tears that can only be repaired during the recovery period. Rest days are vital to our muscle recovery. When we don’t take the necessary time to allow our bodies to recuperate, injury can occur.

If we desire longevity in our training program, rest is a must! Consuming healthy foods and getting a good night’s sleep are also essential to restoring our bodies.

Move your workout outdoors, take a walk, hike up a mountain, have a picnic, eat at an outdoor patio…we have so many opportunities to enhance our health and wellness by simply placing ourselves in a nature-filled environment that awakens our senses, rejuvenates our being and brings increased productivity into our lives.

Stability | The capacity of an object to return to equilibrium or to its original position after having been displaced.

Many of us have been displaced during this pandemic. Whether that be moving to another state, being let go of a job or moving away from family & friends. Now we are in the process of rebuilding. Once we have rebuilt, we do not simply return to the same position, but to a position that is fortified and balanced.

Respecting Ourselves & Our Journey

There are people in our lives who we respect immensely and are inspired by. How often do we respect ourselves and our journey, as we lunge forward in life?

Observing the progression that results from the investment of our time, resources and energy, will inspire us to continue on our chosen path.

Often times, we don’t thank ourselves for having the courage to take a giant step of faith towards our dreams, aspirations & goals.

Stretch | Capable of being made longer or wider without tearing or breaking.

In life we are constantly being stretched beyond our limits. It may feel uncomfortable in the moment, but think about the tension that is released when we allow ourselves to sit in that uncomfortable space. We are able to widen our capacity without being broken. We are resilient.

REST…One goal that I have for myself in 2022 is to create a more consistent sleep schedule and make it a priority. I know we all have so many things on our plate each day, but in order to operate efficiently, we have to ensure that our bodies are receiving the appropriate rest necessary to recover each night.

Sleep Cycles: Light, REM & Deep Sleep

Light Sleep - Your heart and breathing rates are lower than they are when you are awake. There are bursts of electrical activity in your brain, which boost your brain's communication system and your ability to learn and remember.

REM Sleep - The body repairs and regrows tissues, builds bone and muscle and strengthens the immune system during this stage.

Deep Sleep - The stage of sleep you need to feel refreshed when you wake up in the morning. When your body and brain waves slow down.
