On Thursday, August 25th, we will be hosting an interest meeting for 7th-12th graders looking to join the Lady Caliphs Basketball team. The meeting will be at 345pm in the Mohammed Schools of Atlanta Gymnasium.

We are happy to announce Zahporrah Shamsid-Deen ("Coach Z") as the Assistant Coach of the Lady Caliphs Basketball team. Coach Z was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Decatur, Georgia.  She attended Southwest DeKalb High school where she was part of the Lady Panthers basketball team.  After high school, she attended Hampton University where she received a BS in Accounting.

Coach Z takes great pride in her community by actively volunteering.  She has been committed to the growth and success of the Mohammed Schools of Atlanta Caliph’s basketball program since 2011.  During that time, she served as the middle school basketball coach and the assistant coach for the girls’ varsity basketball team.  She was also the girls’ basketball coach for MIST (Muslim Interscholastic Tournament), where they earned the title of southeast regional champions from 2015-2019 and won the MIST National championship in Texas and Canada. 

Additionally, Coach Z is a member of Sister’s United in Human Services, Inc., where she is dedicated to their program of feeding the hungry and homeless of Atlanta.  She has chaired and been actively involved on many committees including the Mohammed Schools of Atlanta Board of Directors. Determined to bring her education and talents where her contribution would make a positive difference, Coach Z became the Director of Finance for Mohammed Schools of Atlanta. As the owner of Supreme Fish Delight Campcreek, she has helped enhance lives by providing jobs for the youth and investing in her community. Coach Z serves and leads with compassion while placing her faith in God for guidance and success.

The Lady Caliphs are hosting an open gym for skills evaluation and development this week, Thursday July 15th - Sunday July 18th. All girls in 4th-12th grade are encouraged to attend and parents are welcome. Come meet our new Head Coach .iya and her staff, and have some fun learning the basic fundamentals of basketball.

India Y. Ali is a DeKalb County native and proud alumna of Southwest DeKalb High School, where she played four years of varsity basketball and graduated with top honors. In 2008, Ali received her undergraduate degree in Business Marketing and Fine Arts at Hofstra University where she played NCAA Division I basketball. After her collegiate career, Ali went on to receive her Juris Doctorate and Masters in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University School of Law and School of Business in 2013.

In 2014, Ali was named the assistant coach at Salem Middle School in DeKalb County, and she helped lead the Lady Lions to their first undefeated season in school history in 2015. From 2016 to present, Ali has been the assistant coach at her alma mater, helping lead the Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers to the 5-AAAAA State Championship game in 2016, two 5-AAAAA Final Fours, five 5-AAAAA Region Championships, and multiple Elite Eight and Sweet 16 appearances.

In addition to coaching and training basketball, Ali manages an investment company with her husband and runs her own law firm, The Law Office of India Y. Ali, which has been an avid financial supporter for multiple organizations and athletic programs in DeKalb County, including the Lady Caliphs. Ali brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, on and off the court, and is excited to join The Mohammed Schools of Atlanta as the Lady Caliphs basketball coach.
