Emory WLC Statement of Solidarity 06/18/2020

The Emory University Weightlifting Club (Emory WLC) stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, including with Black athletes and Black trans athletes everywhere.

As a club sport, it would be dangerously naive to think that pervasive institutional racism does not exist within the realm of elite sports. While many of us have come to weightlifting as a source of joy and healing, Emory WLC recognizes the lack of diversity within the olympic weightlifting community as well as the role systemic racism and transphobia continue to play in organized sport more broadly. We understand that all lives cannot matter until Black lives matter.
