NEW RELEASE: Navigating the Quarterlife Career Crisis: Real Stress, Real Solutions by Scott Doyne
There's no shortage of people telling Gen Z what to do. What's been missing is someone who actually asked.
Scott Doyne spent 25+ years in sports media before becoming an ICF-certified career coach. Heโs helped hundreds of clients, including more than a third who are young professionals under 30. He saw firsthand how lost, stuck, and anxious young people felt about their careers. So he interviewed and surveyed hundreds of 18โ25-year-olds to find out what was really going on.
Using insights and real advice from Gen Z, he wrote the book they told him they needed: real talk on fear of failure, career path uncertainty, the job search, social media, AI, family pressure, and the full weight of adultingโbacked by data, driven by their own words.
His promise: if you can reduce your career anxiety, you will have a more fulfilling life. This book helps you get there.

As a parent, mentor, teacher and career coach of 18 to 25 year olds, Iโm concerned about the level of career stress this generation is experiencing.
Over the past year, I conducted extensive research on Gen Z to better understand the situation and find out what resources theyโd like to have access to.
I am now excited to share these insights in my new book, ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ช๐๐ง๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ก๐๐๐ ๐พ๐๐ง๐๐๐ง ๐พ๐ง๐๐จ๐๐จ: ๐๐๐๐ก ๐๐ฉ๐ง๐๐จ๐จ, ๐๐๐๐ก ๐๐ค๐ก๐ช๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐จ: https://a.co/d/0fdYgpXJ
This is a powerful primer for parents trying to help your children navigate unprecedented anxiety without getting eye rolls in return.
Inside, readers will discover:
* The most common causes of Gen Z career stress
* How to effectively navigate AI, social media, and fear of failure
* Practical approaches to mentoring, networking, and stress relief
* A comprehensive resource list including underutilized college and career tools

As a business person who has worked with emerging technology my whole career, one thing stands out โ you canโt ignore change.
Whether it was the Internet, mobile apps, or social media, my mandate as a digital sports media leader was to provide relevant modern engagement opportunities for fans.
Over a decade ago, my first time being aware of AI was partnering with the NBA on a presentation at a conference featuring capabilities from SAPโs HANA architecture that leveraged natural language processing for a groundbreaking new basketball statistics interface. I didnโt understand it all, but I paid attention and we created a unique and useful consumer experience.
At another conference a few years later, I saw a presentation about AI that was unveiling the possibilities, but also the limitations. See the ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฉ๐ถ๐ข๐ฉ๐ถ๐ข ๐ท๐ด ๐๐ญ๐ถ๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ณ๐บ ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ง๐ง๐ช๐ฏ meme in the comments for reference.
In my new chapter as a certified career coach, I am continuing to analyze whatโs possible with AI, this time as a partner for my clientโs professional aspirations.
Hereโs one recent Supra podcast on the topic that described a product leaderโs process for building an AI career coach for herself and 30+ women at her company: https://substack.com/app-link/post?publication_id=2381422&post_id=167710079
As I continue to explore this new terrain, here are my current takeawaysโฆ
Differentiated Value of an AI career Coach:
- Unlimited on demand availability
- Perfect memory/recall
Similar value - Sounding board, thinking partner
Challenges:
- Self prompt bias
- AI echoing what you want to hear vs what you need to hear
- Delivery of what you say you want vs what you really want
An unexpected aha:
- The potential of partnering with an AI coach with a voice and/or face versus just text. In particular, one of the co-hosts chose a British accent to make it seem smarter.
Open items:
- Non-judgmental - can AI be truly objective or will it always be a self-fulfilling prophecy
- Notion of privacy as a benefit, but is it really private?
- More confirmation bias around the certainty gained from the process. Is this a risk or can false confidence be an unmitigated value?
- Enables what feels like an exhausting optimization addiction - is there a threshold for diminishing returns?
- How well does AI serve as an accountability partner?
- How far away are we from recognition of facial micro-expressions and subtle tone of voice fluctuations?
The capabilities are impressive and evolving quickly, but I canโt help but think we lose something important in the process of de-humanizing empathy.
After all, Iโm trying my best to embrace new technologies and not be defensive, but Iโm still human. ๐
