The 2nd fish kill was on the South River, which flows through Dekalb, Henry, and Rockdale counties before reaching lake Jackson. Dekalb has a history of polluting the South river. It's not as monitored as the Chattahoochee. Henry and Rockdale counties have put in a few river access parks south of where this occurred.

Water officials said they're investigating a possible chemical spill as the cause.

Join us September 11–13 at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, Georgia for a full weekend of kayak fishing, camping, and good company on a beautiful 260-acre freshwater lake.
Whether you're chasing bass, panfish, or catfish, Fort Yargo has the structure, depth, and shoreline cover to keep your rod bent all weekend. We'll be working bridge pilings, rocky points, wood cover, and deeper water — plenty of room for everyone to find their own bite.

This is a non-competitive, education-focused event — perfect for newer paddlers looking to level up their lake game and experienced anglers who just want a great weekend on the water with fellow GKF members. Event leaders will be on hand to talk tackle, electronics, kayak setup, and lake strategy.
Saturday night features a shared group meal and campfire — swap stories, compare patterns, and plan the next adventure.

🌊🏕️ ETOWAH RIVER CAMP n PADDLE – 2026 🛶🎣

Ready to trade flatwater for moving water? Join us for a day of river adventure on North Georgia’s scenic Etowah River! Explore shoal-studded waters, learn to read current, improve your river fishing skills, and target bass and other warm-water species from your kayak.

This is a non-competitive, education-focused float designed for paddlers looking to gain confidence in moving water while learning safe river navigation, controlled drifts, and better boat positioning.

Our next Camp and Paddle is just a couple weeks away. Come join us at Rocky Mountain PFA. The Rocky Mountain Recreation and Public Fishing Area is located near the Chattahoochee National Forest and offers 2 lakes totaling 559 acres. Anglers can catch largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, redear sunfish, crappie, and walleye year-round on Antioch Lake. This is a great place for families. EVENT CANCELED: Due to the wildfires and extreme drought conditions occurring this week in South East Georgia, the GKF Event Leaders for the Okefenokee Camp n Paddle have decided to cancel this year's event, sighting; safety, poor conditions and road closures. Our destination has fires to the north, south, east and west as of right now and heavily blanketed with smoke. The situation is evolving by the minute. All event registrations for Oke will be refunded today. DM us if you have questions. Pray for South Georgia and North Florida as they work through this crisis.
