When I arrived at the restaurant today to have lunch with Brian Pauling, my wise and trusted mentor and friend, I was feeling a bit "beaten-up."

As someone whose life's Purpose and Assignment is to, "nurture, encourage, inspire and support others in identifying and living life more fully," for me to have feelings that come anywhere near "defeated," that's a screaming indicator that my own cup is close to bone dry with barely drops remaining.

Yes, I am kind, smart, strong, resilient, courageous, with pockets of brilliance and a huge heart filled with compassion and empathy for others. I'm sure you embody some of those same traits and characteristics and many others.

At the end of the day (and the beginning too), I am only human ~ as are you. And, humans get tired. I surely have been.

No, lunch didn't make me"untired," but the meaningful conversation, the safe space to openly share honestly, be heard and receive wise and meaningful counsel, feedback and a different perspective, certainly did lift my heavy-heart. The laughter that eventually entered our conversation was priceless. The smiles in the pics are genuine, but they for sure were not there earlier; I detest a fake smile. So Grateful. 🙏🏾

Brian, thank you for hearing my "cry," agreeing to meetup with me and for reminding me of my own humanness.

Let's face it, everyone isn't "OK" all of the time, even your "strong friend."

For decades, I've had a framed copy of this quote in my home, in recent years, in my home office.

Over the last few months, I've had to go from "glancing" at it periodically to re-reading it multiple times each week as a reminder.

From my perspective, the world is indeed "broken." However, the brokenness is not new, but the depth of the break is deeper than ever. Cavernously deep.

I am grateful for prayer, and an understanding that what we're living through right now is so much bigger than humans.

Accordingly, we must each take exceptional care of our whole Selves, starting with our minds, lest the darkness will readily consume us.

Our thoughts, words, decisions, actions and the yielded consequences begin in our minds ~ the light shines or dims here.

So, be intentional, diligent and consistent in tending to your light; the world needs your light, but you need it first.

Shine for you, so that as we come together, we may all shine more brightly for GOD and for one another.
