Sometimes I am not sure parents fully understand what they have registered their child for.

Yes, they registered them for dance.

And, of course, their child is going to learn to dance. They will learn steps, terminology, technique, and how to perform.

But that is only one piece of what is really going on.

They may have just discovered the place where they belong.

Every week, they walk into a studio where people know their name and are happy to see them. They find a group of friends to dance with, laugh with, and grow up with.

They get to lose themselves in the music and movement.

And for a little while, they are away from their phones, electronics, social media, and all the noise that has become part of growing up today.

They are also surrounded by teachers, mentors, and leaders who can become important voices.

Dance changes lives.

I have seen shy children learn to stand in front of a room. I have watched children struggle with something, become frustrated, and discover that they could keep working instead of giving up.

I have watched friendships begin in dance studios and last for decades.

I have watched children grow up with teachers who believed in them, challenged them, and helped them find their voice.

And so many of the lessons do not become clear until years later.

Parents think they registered their child for a dance class.

What they may not realize yet is that they have given their child another place to grow up.

That is what dance can be.

Classes begin Tuesday, September 8th. Looking forward to a great year!

The Studio will be OPEN Monday August 17th , noon until 5pm.

To the mom about to sign your little girl up for dance class…

You probably think you’re signing her up for a fun activity.

A pink leotard.
Tiny ballet shoes.
A few classes after school.

You’re not.

You’re signing up for hair buns that have to be just right.

More bobby pins than you thought one person could own.

Recitals that somehow make you cry every single year.

Car rides filled with music she insists on practicing one more time.

You’ll learn the names of steps you’ve never heard before.

You’ll spend countless evenings waiting outside a studio, watching her confidence grow a little more with every class.

Some days she’ll come out smiling.

Some days she’ll be frustrated.

Some days she’ll wonder if she’s good enough.

That’s when she’ll need you most.

One day you’ll realize she isn’t the little girl in oversized ballet slippers anymore.

She’s standing taller.

Believing in herself.

Taking the lessons dance gave her long after the music stops.

The grace.
The discipline.
The friendships.
The resilience.

So when she’s twirling through the living room…
Practicing in the kitchen…
Or asking you to watch “just one more time…”

Stop what you’re doing.

Because you’re not just watching a dance class.

You’re watching your little girl discover who she is.

And those moments are over far sooner than you think!
