We are saddened to hear of the passing of Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., former Artistic Director of Houston Ballet and Texas Ballet Theater.

A visionary in the field, his work shaped generations of dancers and left a lasting imprint on the art form. In 2023, we had the honor of performing Three Preludes, an experience that connected us directly to his extraordinary legacy.

His influence will continue to be felt in the artists and communities he touched for years to come.

We share our heartfelt condolences with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his extraordinary life.

What does it mean to hideโ€ฆ and what does it mean to be seen?

In Aria, choreographer Val Caniparoli explores identity, vulnerability, and the tension between concealment and freedom. Inspired by Yuri Possokhov during his tenure at San Francisco Ballet, this solo for a male dancer uses a mask as a narrative device to navigate that tension. With poignant operatic strains from Handelโ€™s Rinaldo underpinning its themes, Aria invites both performers and audiences on a journey into the complexities of human experience, allowing for a strikingly intimate performance.

As Atlanta Ballet prepares to bring Aria to the stage, the piece takes on added meaning, performed in the final season of company dancer Denys Nedak before his retirement this May.
