This is accomplished through multiple years of sports training, educational counseling, life skills building and mentorship. A win deserves to be celebrated. Then it’s time to get ready for what’s next.

NFL safety Xavier McKinney is known for a preparation mindset often summed up as the “24-minute rule”: enjoy the win, then turn your attention to the next opponent. After a standout six-interception performance, he was already asking his defensive backs coach for the next opponent’s film. That’s the kind of focus that keeps growth moving.

For young athletes, Friday night’s win is a checkpoint, not a stopping point. The next rep starts with what happens after the celebration: reviewing, learning, and showing up ready to improve.

LEAVE THE TRAIL BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT.

Stewardship Edge is the work nobody sees, but everyone depends on. Venturing Crew 0518 partners with public-land managers on Georgia woodland trails. Youth leaders brief the plan. Teams clear limbs and debris, rebuild drainage water bars, control erosion, remove invasive plants, sweep trash, and pack out what they carry in.

Ownership matters. Take care of shared land. Take care of shared equipment. Follow through on your work. That is the same habit coaches, teammates, recruiters, schools, careers, and athletic-trainer development trust.

Certified adults supervise at all times while youth leaders lead. Tools and stations are inspected before use. Gloves, eye protection, and closed-toe footwear are required. First-aid supplies and hydration stay accessible.

Fair Play Edge starts where excuses stop.

Welcome Metro Atlanta youth and student-athletes ages 14–21 to the dynamic, coed Venturing Crew 0518.

At our youth-led trail challenge and Crew Games day, members write the rules, brief the crew, rotate referee roles, and self-officiate. Call your own infraction. Accept a teammate’s call without arguing. Restart calmly after a bad break. Finish with a handshake.

The standard you keep when no one is watching becomes the habit everyone sees. That habit belongs in athletics, recruiting, leadership, athletic-trainer development, school, and life: respect officials and opponents, compete with class, own a missed assignment, report honestly, and follow protocol.

Certified adult supervision is provided at all times. Youth leaders lead; adults supervise. Gear and stations are inspected before use. First-aid supplies and hydration are accessible.

NEW THEME: WILDLIFE EDGE. Metro Atlanta youth and student-athletes ages 14–21 are welcome in dynamic, coed Venturing Crew 0518. Certified adult supervision supports a youth-led Georgia trail evening focused on wildlife awareness and camp-food discipline.

Pre-dusk routine: give wildlife space; never feed wildlife; hang food and scented items in a properly hung bear bag or use a sealed container away from sleeping areas; separate sleeping, cooking, and food storage areas in a triangle; make trail noise; keep camp clean; pack out every scrap. Encounter an animal? Stay calm and back away slowly.

Decision discipline keeps the crew safe and calm. It builds the repeatable trust coaches, recruiters, and teammates rely on, in sports and life.

Supervised, youth-led archery/range day. Youth leaders run the safety briefing and command sequence, inspect gear, assign archer/commander roles, and keep scorecards. Certified adult range supervision always.

Stance. Anchor. Breath. Release. Follow-through. Repeat under pressure. Bad rep? Reset: next shot. Process over scoreboard. Focus. Patience. Respect.

Transfer the routine: golf tee shot/putt, kick/punt, snap count, route release, free throw.

Safety first: approved protective eye protection/headgear required on the range; equipment inspected before use; no one handles gear until the range briefing is complete; whistle/verbal range commands obeyed immediately.

LEADERS ARE ADVENTUROUS

Combine Edge is the Crew’s own proving ground. Youth leaders plan and run Skills Day stations: a timed loaded-pack hike segment, a route drawn on a map and then walked, a first-aid scenario, and a team challenge.

They record results. Lead the debrief. An adult mentor observes and supervises.

Outdoor mastery is measured, not assumed.

That is the same lesson athletes face at college recruiting combines and camps. Numbers open the door. Habits and character close it. How do you respond to a bad rep? Are you coachable when corrected? How do you treat the person behind you? What does your body language say when you are tired? Did you follow up?

The debrief is the real work. You leave with a plan, not just a score.

A structure only proves itself under load.

PIONEERING EDGE puts youth leadership into action. A youth leader walks the crew through the plan, assigns cutters, carriers, builders, and spotters, then the team measures twice, braces, stakes, and builds it right the first time.

Next: a supervised test load. The whole crew watches. Adult leaders check safe pole handling, gloves, spacing, spotters, and structure stability before anyone loads it. Then comes the debrief: What held? What needs reinforcement next time?

That discipline carries into football, girls flag football, golf, academics, college recruiting, athletic-trainer development, and life. Fundamentals compound. Shortcuts show up under load: fourth quarter, hard season, recruiting pressure, or a major responsibility.

Venturing Crew 0518 rises before the sun. Alarms set the night before. Boots and packs staged by the door. Hot breakfast ready. At first light, a youth leader takes headcount and leads the briefing before the trail opens.
