At Reeves Martial Arts & Fitness we are dedicated to helping each individual student grow towards their fitness and martial arts goals, while they are becoming more mentally resilient and better able to triumph over life's many challenges. TaeKwonDo is the vehicle we use to drive our students towards their goals. TaeKwonDo is from Korea and is the most practiced martial art in the world. Not just because of it's extremely effective self-defense, but because of it's bountiful mental and physical health benefits, and it's infinite adaptability to the needs of students of any age, body type, or learning style. Did you know martial arts schools often have a higher percentage of neurodivergent students than can be found in schools and other sports?
We're okay with that. High energy kids who need to wiggle make awsome ninjas. High functioning autistic kids who hyper focus on details and getting something just right will have a leg up. Dyslexic kids often listen better because they have too, but they may also be less likely to favor one side of the body. Highly anxious kids will find a supportive environment and learn to persevere through obstacle illusions.
It's the students who have the most to gain from martial arts that stay the longest, achieve the most, and appreciate their training the most. And while they're improving all these areas of their lives they will also be making life long friends who share positive values.
The trick is that we can only really help students who really want to learn. If they are willing to show up often and try their best we can definitely help them improve their athleticism, social skills, and academic performance. It just takes time, effort, consistency, and patience. It's not a magic pill. It's 3,000 years of martial arts traditions, some psychology, neurology, and an instructor with over 3 decades of experience combining them to help students achieve more than they thought possible.
