Kennebec Valley Roller Derby welcomes all people to the sport of roller derby, and we are saddened to see the recent anti-trans bills that have been introduced both across the country and here in our state.
LD 926, introduced by State Representative Beth OโConnor, would ban transgender girls from participating in womenโs sports here in the state at the elementary, high school, and college level. We stand against this discriminatory bill, and believe that all women have the right to participate in the sports activities that conform to their gender identity. Transwomen are women.
We recommend that all Mainers in opposition to this bill reach out to your state representatives and inform them of the damage such a bill would inflict if enacted. You can find out who your state representative is and their contact information here:

Hello friends, family, and fellow skaters! KVRD is reassessing on a monthly basis to deem when it's safe for us to start skating together again. New COVID-19 cases in the counties where our skaters reside is one of many factors that are part of our safety discussions. Once we are able to skate together again, KVRD will follow the WFTDA Return to Play Guidance. Please stay tuned and we appreciate your continued support!!

Words cannot express the sorrow and anger we are feeling at the murder of George Floyd and the entrenched systems of oppression that allowed it to happen. Kennebec Valley Roller Derby stands in support of the family of George Floyd, the city of Minneapolis, and communities nationwide standing up against systemic racism. We demand justice, and we demand change. The historic and ongoing oppression and marginalization of BPOC (Black People of Color) cannot be allowed to continue.
We also recognize that words alone are not enough. That is why we are encouraging our members, volunteers, and fans to donate to Reclaim the Block, a Minneapolis group that organizes around policies that strengthen community-led safety initiatives and reduce reliance on police departments.
We also recognize we have our own part to play in breaking down the barriers of systemic racism. Roller derby has, since its inception, been an overwhelmingly white space. Though it has never been by design, we own this. However, we commit to being better, to finding ways to actively be a more explicitly open, welcoming, and diverse space.
Black Lives Matter.
