⛳ FOREST HILLS FACT FRIDAY
Ever noticed this little stone near the pavilion and wondered what “WATROUS” means?
On March 29, 1936, professional golfer Al Watrous recorded a rare double eagle on the fifth hole at Forest Hills, then a 466-yard hole.
Later that year, Forest Hills members erected a monument at the fifth hole to commemorate the remarkable shot.
And yes, those two carved eagles suddenly make a lot more sense. 🦅🦅
Today, the marker sits near the pavilion, leaving us with a little Forest Hills mystery:

⛳ FOREST HILLS FACT FRIDAY
You may have walked past a piece of Forest Hills history without even realizing it.
The pavilion at Forest Hills incorporates the stacked-stone fireplace and brick floor of the original Forest Hills Clubhouse, preserved as a “silent witness” to nearly 80 years of Augusta golf history.
And the history doesn’t stop there. The pavilion’s white columns once stood on buildings at Augusta State University.
Today, these pieces of the past remain right here at Forest Hills, hiding in plain sight.
Sometimes history isn’t behind glass. Sometimes you’ve been walking right past it. 👀⛳

We had a great day on the course last Saturday as members and their guests came together for one of our favorite traditions.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s Member-Guest Tournament such a great day at Forest Hills. We always enjoy welcoming your guests to the course and hope everyone had a fantastic time!

FOREST HILLS FACT FRIDAY | A PLACE OF SERVICE
Forest Hills has witnessed a century of golf, but part of its history reaches far beyond the game.
During World War II, the former Forrest Hills-Ricker Hotel became Oliver General Hospital, caring for wounded and recovering servicemen. The golf course remained part of the hospital grounds, where recovering veterans were encouraged to play as part of their rehabilitation, some taking to the course on crutches, in wheelchairs, and even in body casts.
Today, on September 11, we pause from our usual Fact Friday to remember the lives lost 25 years ago, the families forever changed, and the first responders and service members whose courage and sacrifice followed.
We remember.

⛳ THE GIANT KILLER
Ever wondered how No. 16 got its nickname?
During the 1930 Southeastern Open, Bobby Jones was cruising toward victory when the par-3 16th handed him a triple bogey.
Jones still went on to win the tournament by an incredible 13 strokes, but No. 16 had made its mark.
Sometime afterward, the hole earned a fitting nickname:
“Giant Killer.”
Nearly a century later, the name remains.
