FLIPPING THE SWITCH, AUGUSTA ORIOLES

Augusta was sitting at 1-5, midway through the season, and few saw what was coming next. The Orioles caught fire down the stretch, winning four straight games, to surge into the Round of 8 in Class 4A.

Their late-season run included statement wins over McPherson (twice), and a revenge victory over Mulvane tonight in the playoffs, the same team that had edged them by three points a little over a month earlier.

Head coach Dawson Elliott’s squad has become one of Kansas high school football’s best turnaround stories, proving that belief, toughness, and buy-in can completely change a season.
