Craig Oldiges, a coach at our Norman studio AND a member of the high-performance rowing team (on his journey to Olympic trials) was kind enough to give us some rowing tips from a professional on how to get the most out of our rowing!
Craig shared that the 3 most important parts of rowing:
🍊 Hip movement: Hinge at the hips I’m sure we’ve all heard about keeping a straight back while rowing this can be true but only if it’s comfortable. Craig explained, “More important than keeping your back straight is making sure you are hinging at the hips and then if your upper back curves a little in that position and that’s comfortable that’s perfectly fine! As long as you are hinging at the hips this will take pressure off the back.”
🍊 Drive Sequence: Accelerate all the way through, not just in the legs and then let power fall after that drive back. Should be a 1 second drive back and 2 count recovery. Important to have power throughout the sequence. Craig shared, “Sometimes you have to slow down to get faster. It’s all about form and getting used to it. Rowing isn’t something you can master but rather something you keep getting better and better at. So, when you are on the rower getting ready, start with a low intensity low stroke rate, get use to the form and the acceleration through the drive and hold that as the rate comes up and that is what will help you see those higher watts and lower 500m/splits.”
🍊 Foot/Body placement: We have all heard to set up your feet with the strap around the widest part of your feet – Craig shared a bit of a different tip on this. “All bodies are different and because of this the placements of your feet and where the strap should go will differ from person to person. This all goes back to hinging at the hips and finding a position for your body and feet that works comfortably with the hip hinge.”
Thank you, Craig! If you’re interested in learning more about rowing, you can reach out directly to Craig @the_real_craig_oldiges

It’s empowering to feel that sibling connection again. It’s true, we all love a little family competition. Now picture what it’d be like to have some friendly sibling rivalry encouraging you to go heavier on your sumo deadlifts. Or don’t picture it. Do it.

It's a new month, new goals, new intentions, new results. The only April Fools joke today is you saying you're too busy to get your workout in 🤪
See you in the studio! Let's start this month strong together 💪🏼
Let's reclaim today for a better tomorrow. This April, join us in class as we partner with @american_heart for the second time this year to celebrate . Care for ourselves now and protect the futures of everyone we care about too.

We want to share the incredible story of one of our beloved members at Orangetheory Tucson Foothills, Christina Shippy!
Christina was struggling with her heart rate while she was in class and could not figure out why she was constantly in the red even when she was just on the weight floor. Finally, one of our coaches after seeing the monitor on the screen, recommended that Christina go and see her doctor. Turns out she has Hypertension and her doctor told her she never would have known if it wasn't for our heart rate monitor system, and that OT likely saved her life.
We're so happy to have you as part of our family, Christina! Celebrating you and your health 🧡
This is us cheering you on to get in the studio today for that midweek workout 💪🏼
You're one workout away from feeling energized and ready to conquer the rest of the week 🧡
