OOO: I'm off getting superhuman
It's NYE and after spending the day reflecting on 2022, I decided to put on my bright lounge wear and stay home to get a jump on 2023.
Next year I make my university lecturing debut and I've got some ambitious projects in the works.
Lately I've caught myself getting lost in the scroll more times than I'd like. Even if it is inspirational, motivational, biz content, It's taking my focus away from what I am building.
Distractions are distractions.
I'm calling back in feeling Superhuman for 2023.
The same desire I had 4 years ago that changed absolutely everything.
(See -> Jan 2019 - woman gives up drinking, leaves hard fought career, business, and life in London to go live with a circus collective and perform on aerial silks, then traveled the world, to find herself and her true calling)
2023 -> Stronger -> Mentally, Physically, Financially, Spiritually, Emotionally
In 2022 I got grounded in reality and stability. I laid the foundation.
Now it's time to build. Now it's time to fly.
And for the final act of my 30s -> All Systems Firing.
My Autoresponder is now on (thanks insta for a feature that actually helps me get off this thing).
I'll be back, stronger and more focused than ever.
I'll still be picking up texts & whatsapps
If you want to work with me (very limited space for new clients) or chat with me you can send me an email [email protected]
Bi-weekly UNRESTRICTED Life & Biz Upgrades Newsletter will continue too
See you on the other side.
Happy New Year!

I woke up yesterday on my 38th birthday, ruminating on what I hadn’t achieved.
Pity parties lead nowhere good so I grabbed my journal and forced myself to start writing a list of what I’d accomplished since my last birthday.
I ran 4 group programs, spent 2 weeks recording and editing my program content, had 3 corporate consultancy clients, created 4 masterclasses, and ran something like a dozen events, not to mention countless speaking engagements at other people’s events and on podcasts.
I started my podcast again, write 10,000 words a week, hosted a local entrepreneurs circle, co-created a local biz mastermind, finished the final edit of my book and then decided (rightly so) to hold off publishing, and did all of the arduous steps to finally close down my last business in the UK.
I pivoted to work exclusively with women despite the risk of losing half my audience.
I kept up my morning and evening routines. I did tons of nourishment, time with friends, beach, and more.
I kept going to pole, silks and dance.
I’m rolling up on 3 years booze free.
I completed a scientific female physiology course and all but eliminated my PMS symptoms.
I completed 4 x business training programs
I’ve read 9 books and did 11 hours of micro spanish practice
I started stand up comedy and performed 30+ times!!
Took 2 x 10 day holidays and kept a 4 day/30 hour working week.
I even dated.
What?! I did all that?!
I was shocked that I did that much in my business, all while living in paradise and enjoying my life and taking care of my body.
Normally starting a business is an activity that plunges me in the depths of burnout and de-prioritizing self-care in favor of killing myself for untenable goals.
If you’re reading this and thinking this kind of productivity, life, or mindset isn’t available to you. . . know that it is.
I was the worst burnout and self-sabotage offender. I still have bad days and negative thoughts. I just react to those bad days and feelings differently now.
If I can do this, anyone can.
Do not make me extraordinary to let yourself off the hook.
All of this can be learned.
I’m here for you whenever you’re ready

When Decision Making and Feminine Energy Collide: What is FOBO and how to create space for uncertainty . . .
On Sunday, I listened to an episode of All The Hacks podcast with , the man that literally created the term FOMO.
Enter the term I hadn’t heard before, Fear of a Better Option - FOBO.
Essentially, McGinnis’s theory is that we are obstructing our own happiness by focusing on what decision to make.
I pondered this conversation and analyzed FOMO, FOBO and McGinnis's definition of making choices through my own exploration and how facing fear head on, was actually helping me embrace my feminine energy more, so long as there was safety in routine.
Somehow I got from FOMO to Morning Routines in my writing sesh and exploration . . . I think you'll enjoy it.
I can't fit the entire roundup in 2200 characters, so you can head to my bio and click the link (or go to athenasimpson.com/writing/fobo) to see what all these things have in common (and what you can do to stop being crippled by decision overload).

In my old life, I used to run myself to the ground
All-night cram sessions for exams in university . . .
Working 16 hour days on little sleep, no exercise or self-care for 15 years . . .
Then “celebrating” (drinking) even though I was mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted and just wanted to sleep . . .
Then I’d get sick, unable to move, my batteries fully depleted.
Instead of enjoying time off, it would be forced on me and although I was sick, I’d be beating myself up for not being able to keep going.
I thought that’s what I needed to do to succeed. Push myself until I broke.
WORK HARD.
PLAY HARD.
BURN OUT.
The cycle nearly killed me.
You might believe the hype that self-care and nourishment are frivolous and selfish and will hold you back from being productive and successful.
In actual fact, nothing could be further from the truth.
Prioritizing your well-being is not only crucial for your productivity, but also your health. And there’s tons of research coming out to back this up.
If you still follow the work hard, play hard (burn out) approach, you’re literally killing yourself.
I have a free online workshop where I talk about the missing link between well-being and productivity.
I demystify the societal beliefs around productivity and why you need to pay attention to your mind, body and work holistically if you want to achieve more both in your career and your enjoyment of life (and how to do it!)
This is for you if:
Resistant to getting organized or managing your time
Go through cycles of burning out or frequent sickness
Don’t feel like you’re taking care of yourself
Feel stuck
Are a perfectionist
Feel all over the place, anxious or overwhelmed
Procrastinating on that project or business
Want to level up your entrepreneurial or work output game.
It’s free and you can watch it right now. LINK IN BIO!

I started using a menstrual cup 1.5 years ago, and I absolutely love it (and have no idea what took me so long).
It’s more comfortable, better for the environment, my girl is happy she’s not dried out, my period is shorter cause I’m not blocking it in with tampons, it reduced cramping and discomfort, and I feel more connected to my cycle because I can see whether I’m having a healthy period or not.
Did you know that your menstrual cycle is your fifth vital sign? The amount you bleed and the color and consistency of your blood tells you a lot!
Some women experience leakage or discomfort when using a cup so here’s the hacks I discovered that helped me love my cup:
📏Measure Before You Buy!
Measuring makes sure you get the right size so you won’t have leaks or be uncomfortable. Every brand has measuring guidelines, so don’t skip this step and get googling!
🥥Use coconut oil to slide that baby in
Put a very thin swipe of coconut oil around the top and outside of your cup to make insertion easier (just hold on tight, it can be slippery!)
👆Swipe, twist, pull
Make sure the cup has fully expanded with a swipe around the outside, twist it ¼ turn to get a little suction going, and pull down lightly to make sure it’s gonna stay
🧂Use salt before washing to remove discoloration
This one blew my mind! Make a salt rub for your cup with salt and a tiiiinny amount of water and just rub your cup until the stains come off (my cup of 1.5 years looked brand new after doing this!). Then I wash it and boil for 10 minutes in filtered water so it’s ready for my next cycle, but you’ll want to check the guidelines for your particular cup to make sure salt/boiling is ok for it.
Top Tip: Salt on a cutting board before washing also removes discoloration!!
P.S. Do you want more content about how to optimize your life to get the most out of every day?

What is your Money Mindset?
What you learn at young age about money sets the foundation for how you view and treat money and the invisible patterns you continue to play out unless intervened.
As it turns out, love, relationships, work, money, self-care . . . .are all interconnected and stem from the same beliefs we have about ourselves.
Money mindset is probably one of the most challenging areas to untangle.
Recently, in the UNRESTRICTED Alumni Club, book club we discussed Overcoming Underearning by
This book is on the list of lifechangers and her guidance to challenge yourself to go outside of your comfort zone, to let go of what doesn’t serve you anymore and stretch yourself to new places is epic.
Serendipitously, many of the exercises are similar to what I take women through in my bootcamp program when looking at happiness and overcoming self-sabotage.
Keeping commitments, pushing myself outside of ‘safety’ and facing that which you're resistant to, knowing and stating your value, having difficult conversations, consistency and boundaries . . .
These things show up as challenges in all areas of your life, work on one and get adept in the others.
I think it’s a must read for any woman. Yet another tool for us to step into our unlimited power.
Takeaways for you:
Do you say things like ‘I don’t need much’, I just want to give my money to someone else to manage, are afraid to ask for a raise or more money from your clients, or find yourself scared to look at or even talk about finances?
If so, do yourself a favor, read this book, start learning about money, and have conversations with your friends.
You won’t believe how nourishing and exciting learning about money (and ultimately yourself) can be!
What’s your money story?
